Water Damage - Memorial Hall

Due to a problem with one of the water heaters in the building, Memorial Hall will be locked down today (FOB Access Only) while Facilities staff cleans up the water damage. Since the leak originated on 3rd floor, multiple offices have been affected and there is ceiling damage and wet carpeting on the floors below. Water will be shut off to the entire building today, so please use rest room facilities in adjacent buildings. Please expect to see Facilities staff and contractors in the building for the next several days restoring the damage.

Reserve Your Space for Jess's Writing Retreat

Do you wish you had uninterrupted time to write/work on scholarship? If so, you will want to take advantage of the annual Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat. Jess established a tradition of allowing faculty and academic staff time away from campus to focus entirely on scholarship. There is no schedule for this retreat - it is simply time and space to work on scholarship. The Provost and the Center for Teaching and Learning will cover the cost of the retreat.

The retreat will take place Sunday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m. (after lunch) through Tuesday, May 19 at 1:00 p.m. (after lunch). Please email ctl@augsburg.edu to reserve your space.

Donor of the Day: Nazih Safi '17

Philanthropy Week's Donor of the Day is Nazih Safi '17

Nazih Safi is a second year mathematics and economics major who is a member of the Augsburg Day Student Government, a McNair Scholar, Bonner Leader, and Augsburg Asian Student Association board member. Nazih is also a student worker in the Institutional Advancement office as a Phonathon caller. He calls thousands of alumni and friends of the College and encourages them to make a gift back to the college to help students like him. On Give to the Max Day, he took it one step further and donated back to Augsburg himself!

When asked why he chooses to give to Augsburg now he said, "If not for the scholarships and financial aid I receive, then college would not be possible for me and many of my classmates. I felt the calling to start giving back with what I can give right now."

About Quick Stop:
These drop-in hours are designed to expand access to career coaches and to accommodate impromptu student career questions as they arise. During Quick Stop hours students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis for brief, 15-minute drop-in appointments. These times are meant for quick career questions, brief resume or cover letter reviews, or help getting started with an internship or job search.

Quick Stop is not intended to replace longer appointments, and we regret we cannot accommodate career assessment requests during Quick Stop hours (please schedule an individual appointment: 612-330-1148).

Einsteins is open from 7:30am-9:00pm with the Late Night Menu starting at 7:00pm.

The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Herb Roasted Beef, Grilled Quinoa Cakes, Braised Carrots with Thyme, and Sweet Potato Fries. Vege is serving Couscous with Carrots, Raisins & Pine Nuts, Roasted Butternut Squash with Warm Spice, Crispy Broccoli with Lemon Topping, Hazelnut Roasted Asparagus.

Center for Wellness & Counseling Open House

Seeking Volunteers to Serve Late Night Breakfast

We are looking for staff and faculty volunteers to join President Pribbenow in serving Late Night Breakfast on Monday, April 27 from 10-11:30 p.m. We need a total of 8 servers (including the President) and 2 volunteers to direct students. Servers bring a hat and closed toe shoes from home, don an A'viands provided apron and serve up an assortment of breakfast goodies to our students on the first night of finals week.

Current Auggie Shares Gift, Sees Potential in CSBR

Like many adult undergraduate students, Nic Parsons '15 had a lot of living under his belt before he enrolled at Augsburg. "Sometimes people just have to live and learn," explains Parsons, now 38 and nearing completion of his bachelor's degree. Augsburg has made a difference in Parsons' life, so when he received an inheritance from his grandfather he decided to use a portion of it to support the Center for Science, Business, and Religion (CSBR), even while he was still a student. A faculty office in the new building will be named in recognition of his generosity. "I felt like giving," remembers Parsons, "so I called the office of Institutional Advancement and asked about opportunities." Parsons made his gift early in the CSBR campaign, even before momentum for the campaign had swung into full gear.

Parsons wasn't exposed to church while he was growing up, but in the early 2000s he realized he had a strong desire to be part of something. He began exploring churches and found he was drawn to Lutheranism. He was baptized in 2004. "I believe that peace happens through God. … It's about people treating each other, animals, and the planet well," says Parsons, who continues to explore his faith at Augsburg. "If you're not focused on that, you're off-track."

"Augsburg needs lab space more than anything," says Parsons. He also believes wholeheartedly in the integration of science, business, and religion in the CSBR. "If you tear down the walls at Augsburg, it's less likely that there will be walls out there," he says, pointing out the window toward downtown Minneapolis.
