CSBR Campaign Over $45 Million
Kjempe Bra! The Center for Science, Business, and Religion has reached the new fundraising milestone of $45 million. What follows is a portion of Paul Pribbenow's email message to the Board of Regents.
"Today we have exciting news to share related to our fundraising progress for the CSBR. Thanks to your leadership and commitment to this project, we have gone over the $45 million mark! This incredible milestone puts us within $5 million of our fundraising goal of $50 million. Our recent progress is due in part to a generous gift left to us by our alumnus James Ericksen, who passed away earlier this year leaving about 1/3 of his estate to the College. In addition to Mr. Ericksen's gift, many new major gift donors have made gifts in response to the generosity of the Regent who gave $10 million toward this project.
When Mike Good '71 stepped forward to serve as national chair of the largest capital campaign in our history, he challenged us all to Believe! I'm incredibly grateful for his vision and powerful approach to making this effort a success. With deep gratitude, I also want to thank each of you for your personal commitment to this capital campaign. You are transforming Augsburg College in meaningful and lasting ways.
Ongoing updates related to this fundraising effort are posted at http://www.augsburg.edu/csbr so please visit that website. If you have thoughts or questions about the Campaign for the Center for Science, Business, and Religion please contact Vice President Heather Riddle at riddle@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1177."

ACTC Bus Service to be Discontinued for Fall
The Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (Augsburg, Hamline, Macalester, St. Catherine, and St. Thomas) have decided to discontinue shuttle service between our campuses at the end of the current academic year, according to a previous A-mail post by Karen Kaivola, provost and chief academic officer. This decision was reached after a year of conversation. In the course of this conversation, it became clear the ACTC shuttle, while providing real convenience to many members of our communities, has become unaffordable and unsustainable. The final day for the ACTC shuttle will be May 2.
Augsburg and ACTC remain committed to cross-registration and will continue to support students who wish to pursue opportunities to study on member campuses. Indeed, we are fortunate to be located in a vibrant urban setting with so many sustainable and affordable transportation options, which include the new Green Line, recently improved local bus routes, and car- and bike-sharing programs.
Augsburg will continue to support and work with local organizations, including Metro Transit, HOURCAR, Car2Go, and NiceRide to make available a range of affordable, sustainable transportation options for students, faculty, and staff.
If you have questions or concerns regarding cross registration, please contact the Registrar's Office, registrar@augsburg.edu. For questions about inter-campus transit, contact Ann Garvey, vice president of Student Affairs at garvey@augsburg.edu.

Donor of the Day: Andy Aoki
Philanthropy Week's Donor of the Day is Andy Aoki, Professor of Political Science and Sabo Fellow.
Since 1988, Andy has taught in the Political Science department as well as the Master of Arts in Leadership program at Augsburg. In 2013, Andy helped to found the Dr. Norma Noonan Scholarship, awarded to students studying International Studies and Political Science and named after longtime Augsburg professor Norma Noonan, who taught in the Political Science and International Relations departments, and helped create the College's International Relations department and Master of Arts in Leadership Program.
Andy has been passionate about raising funds for the Noonan Scholarship for the last two years, even creating a Give to the Max Day fundraising project last fall to encourage Augsburg alumni, parents, and friends to support the scholarship. Thanks to Andy's outreach and efforts, $2,610 was raised for the scholarship in just a single day on Give to the Max Day. Those gifts from donors, along with many other generous donors, have endowed the Noonan Scholarship---meaning it can be awarded to a student every year indefinitely.
Thank you, Andy!
Interested in creating a scholarship? Thinking about creating your own Give to the Max Day fundraising project? Stop by our Philanthropy Week table in Christensen this week or email giving@augsburg.edu.

The Tierralismo Good Earth Film screenings of the recently released documentary, Tierralismo: Stories from a Cooperative Farm. Part of the AMI Cuba catalogue, Tierralismo is about the history and practices of one of Cuba's most successful urban farms, the Organoponico Vivero Alamar (Alamar Organic Cooperative). Tierralismo, introduces viewers to everyone from agronomists and senior management to workers who plant, plow, and propagate. What began as a necessity - farming without pesticides and chemical fertilizers - has become a source of pride to coop members.
Tierralismo also covers non-farming aspects of the operation, such as human resources and accounting practices. In a land where financial resources are scarce and governmentally controlled, transparency and trust are paramount. Many of the coop's members have come from other fields - including a former pathologist, a fisherman, and an oil-industry worker. More than half are seniors - including an 82-year-old who says when it comes to hoeing, he can outwork anyone in their twenties. This is a film not only about the food and the farm but the characters who make it happen.

In a Maine coastal village toward the end of the 19th century, the swaggering, carefree carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, captivates and marries the naive millworker, Julie Jordan. Billy loses his job just as he learns that Julie is pregnant and, desperately intent upon providing a decent life for his family, he is coerced into being an accomplice to a robbery. Caught in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life and is sent up there.' Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day fifteen years later, and he encounters the daughter he never knew. She is a lonely, friendless teenager, her father's reputation as a thief and bully having haunted her throughout her young life. How Billy instills in both the child and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the power of love. It's easy to understand why, of all the shows they created, CAROUSEL was Rodgers & Hammerstein's personal favorite.
