Less Than One Week to Apply for 2 CTL Grants

Faculty, please visit http://inside.augsburg.edu/ctl/grant-applications/ to access the call for proposals and applications for the Provost's Internationalization Travel Grants and the Summer Scholarship Grants. Applications for both grants are due by February 9th.

Writing Lab Is Open for Business

The time to visit Writing Lab tutors is now. Last semester they conducted about 1,000 conferences with students on their writing assignments. Tutors can help at any stage of the writing process; just show up with a hard copy of your draft. Please find the Lab on the street level of Lindell Library, left of the circulation desk.

Here are the hours:

Monday: 11:10 a.m.-1:40 p.m.; 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:30-3 p.m.; 3:30 - 6 p.m.; 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30-6 p.m.; 6:30-9 p.m.
Thursday: 12:30-3 p.m.; 3:30-6 p.m.; 7:30-10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30-7 p.m.
Sunday: 5:00-8 p.m.

CTL Scholarly Writing Discussion - This Wednesday

Faculty, join your colleagues for a discussion on how to manage scholarly writing with a heavy teaching load. In preparation for the discussion, please read the two brief articles that are linked on the CTL events page http://inside.augsburg.edu/ctl/upcoming-events/. Come for the coffee (and tea), stay for the ideas and community.

This event will coincide with the announcement of dedicated space on campus for faculty and staff to focus on writing.

Nabo is open from 7:30am-8:00pm. The Special of the day is a Pesto Chicken Wrap.

Einstein's is open from 7:30am-9:00pm with the Late Night Menu starting at 7:00pm.

The Commons is open from 7:30am-8:00pm. Market place is serving Grilled Garlic Pork Loin, Grilled Zucchini, Parislised Potatoes, and Asparagus. Vege is serving Seasoned Yellow Squash, Snap Peas with Mushrooms, Couscous with Dates & Pistachios, and Cottage Fries.

Scholarship Opportunity - Students of Color

ATTENTION UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF COLOR:
Scholastic Connections is a scholarship and mentorship program for undergraduate students of color at Augsburg College. Students who are successful in their application process and are selected to participate, receive a $5000 scholarship and are paired with a successful alum of color who serves as mentor for the Scholar.

Five "new" Scholars will be selected for the program for 2015-16.

Eligibility criteria:
• GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Demonstrated leadership ability or potential
• Demonstrated community involvement (on or off campus)
• Demonstrated financial need

Students who receive full tuition scholarships (Promise, Act 6, President Scholars) are NOT eligible for SC.

Application Process - Applicants must complete the following:
• Scholastic Connections Application (due 3/1)
• One letter of recommendation from someone other than a family member (due 3/1)
• An application interview with Cindy Peterson (completion deadline 3/15) – instructions to follow receipt of application

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 3/1.

Interested in exploring life's big questions? Will you be studying on campus all of next year? Consider becoming a Christensen Scholar.

Christensen Scholars participate in a yearlong academic seminar (REL 405/406) led by Professor Martha Stortz, earn four upper division semester credits in the Religion Department, and receive a $2,000 scholarship.

MNSure Enrollment on Campus TODAY

CCHP will be hosting MN Sure navigators from Health Access on Tuesday 2/3/15 from 10-2 pm in the Riverside Room of Christensen Center for anyone who may be needing to enroll in a health insurance plan. The deadline for enrollment in the MN Sure health plans is 2/15/15. These health navigators can answer questions and will meet individually with interested students, faculty or staff.

The appointments will take about 45-60 minutes and you can sign up for a specific time slot by calling the CCHP office at 612-330-1707.

Representatives from Take Action MN will also be available and are interested in hearing people's stories about your health care experiences so please stop by the their table in Christensen Center on Tuesday as well.

Below is a checklist of info you will need to apply:

Checklist of Information for Applying
Have this information before your start the application process:

* Social Security number for each person applying
* Date of birth for everyone in household (not just those applying)
* Driver's license, Tribal ID, or other ID
* For non-citizens, Green Card or other immigration documents
* Last year's tax forms (1040EZ or page 1 of 1040)
* Two most recent pay stubs
* Documents for other sources of income (social security, unemployment, self-employment, etc.)
* W2 form or Employer Tax ID Number (EIN)
* Employer's address and contact information
* Information about any employer-provided health insurance available to each person applying (request this from the employer)
* Think of a username and password for your MNSure account
* DEPENDENT INFORMATION: Make sure you know whether your parent/guardian claims you as a dependent on their tax forms. If they do, you need to bring the above information for your PARENT/GUARDIAN.

If possible, ask your parent/guardian to be available via phone from during the event in case you need additional information from them.

Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics

The Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics is Tuesday, February 10th, 11:00-12:00 in the Hoversten Chapel. The convocation address, entitled, "The Sociology of Seerah: Reclaiming Prophetic Tradition For Our Time and Place” will be delivered by Dr. Rami Nashashibi, Executive Director of the Inner-City Action Network (IMAN) and visiting professor at the Chicago Theological Seminary.
This timely presentation will focus on Muslim American identity and social justice issues by applying lessons from the life of the prophet Mohammed to our time and place. For more information, contact Matt Maruggi at maruggi@augsburg.edu.

Budget Manager Training Starts Tomorrow

Training for budget managers will be held:

TOMORROW, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 9-10 a.m. in OGC 100
Monday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m.-Noon in OGC 100
Thursday, Feb. 12, 2-3 p.m. in Christensen's Augsburg Room

All budget managers should plan to attend one of these trainings. You will be provided with the framework and strategy behind the FY2016 budget. Also, specific information and direction will be given on the new format for your budget submission.

Housing Expo

All Day students will receive a computer generated, randomly assigned, selection number based on class status. Those with the highest numbers will be the first to choose their housing for 2015-2016.. Find current Day students to room with and add the selection numbers of everyone in your group. Once you have the total, find the appropriate time slot and come to the Expo with your student ID and printed selection number email.

Day at the Capitol to Support MN State Grant 2/25

Students,

You are all invited to participate in Minnesota Private College Council Day at the Capitol, taking place Thursday, February 25. The goal of the event is to advocate to state legislators about the importance of the Minnesota State Grant for college students, not just from students who receive the grant, but also from those who do not receive the grant to talk about its impact on the greater Augsburg community.

Check in will be 7:45 a.m. in OGC Atrium and you will return to campus by 3:00 p.m. FREE breakfast and lunch, as well as free transportation, will be provided.

Lynn Casey, CEO of PadillaCRT - Feb 12 at 5pm

Please join us for a presentation by Lynn Casey, CEO of PadillaCRT at Augsburg College. Lynn Casey will speak about "Building and Protecting Relationships in Real Time". Casey is a dynamic, caring leader and Auggie parent, who will share her personal story of building relationships throughout her tenure at PadillaCRT.

Casey has served on and chaired numerous nonprofit boards. Currently, she is vice chair of the Greater Twin Cities United Way, secretary of the University of Minnesota Foundation, and is an active member of the Minnesota Women's Economic Roundtable and the Itasca Project.

Steve Wehrenberg, a member of Augsburg's Board of Regents and the Director of the U of M's Professional M.A. in Strategic Communication program, will introduce her presentation.

Native American Film Series Starts Next Week

Fire and Ice explores two mountain cultures fighting to protect their cultural and ecological heritage with the help of modern science. In the Gamo Highlands of Ethiopia, spiritual traditions that long protected trees, meadows and mountains are under attack by evangelical Christians. In the Peruvian Andes, Q'eros potato farmers face an invisible foe: global warming that is melting the glaciers, their only water source. Narrated by Graham Greene (Oneida), with storytelling by Q'orianka Kilcher.
