Teaching and Learning

Staff & Faculty, Come and Write in Quiet - Today

Setting aside regular blocks of time to focus on writing is one of the keys to maintaining productivity. As such, all staff and faculty are invited to utilize Lindell 202 as a distraction-free zone. For the rest of the semester Lindell 202 is available from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. If the door is locked, call campus security or ask library personnel to open the door.

There are no expectations for how long you stay or how many times you utilize the space. Just come in, sit down, grab a piece of candy, abide by the one rule (no talking), and start writing. If you can't make the designated times, simply carve out a consistent time and space and start writing on your own schedule.

Go Moodle - Assignment Workshop

Take advantage of two open sessions this week to help you build assignments in your Moodle course and give quick feedback to your students.

The assignment tool in Moodle enables you to:
• Extend your instructional presence beyond the classroom with assignment instructions, due dates and required resources.
• Verify student electronic submissions within Moodle instead of your email.
• Streamline your grading workflow with rubrics and grading guides.
• Incorporate in-class assessments (like presentations or exams) into the Moodle gradebook.
• Reuse the assignment next time you offer the course.

Session Information:
Wednesday (Feb. 11) 12:30-3:00 pm in Old Main 206
Thursday (Feb. 12) 12:00-1:40 pm in OGC 112

You will receive one-on-one support from your LFC/E-Learning support team. Come and go when you can, and plan on allocating approximately 30 minutes. Walk-ins are welcome. Bring with you a particular assignment in mind or we can help find one for you. And we will have technology available if you don't bring your own.

We look forward to helping you!

6th Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge

Time to take it to the Tommies! The Auggies and Tommies faculty/staff will be back at it for the 6th Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge. To date WE are 3-2 in these challenges. Before you ask, YES we are returning to our old tried and true method of reporting points . . . to me!
Read below for details.

What: 8 weeks of friendly and healthy competition
Who: Any faculty and staff (full-time, part-time, adjunct)
When: Starting February 18-April 15
Where: Anywhere you want to work out as long as it is at least for 30 minutes (doesn't need to be all at once).
How:
30 minutes of activity = 1 point
60 minutes of activity = 2 points
14 points is the maximum points/week. Each week the winner will be announced based on the average for the team. The goal is to win the most weeks during this 8 week challenge.
· Fac/staff with an Augsburg HSA, who report their points on time every week will receive a $50 contribution to their HSA.
· Fac/staff without an HSA, who report their points on time every week will be entered in a drawing for various prizes.

Rules of the Competition:
1) Sign up by sending enke@augsburg.edu an email that you are interested in participating.
2) Keep track of the number of points earned each week (14 is the maximum/week).
3) A week starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday at midnight.
4) If you miss reporting your total by Wednesday @ 2:00 p.m., your points will not count for that particular week. You can participate the following week but you will not be allowed to use any points from the previous week.
5) This is a fun competition between Augsburg and St. Thomas but the MAIN goal is to get folks motivated to add some (or perhaps more) physical activity into their weekly routine.
6) Every week we will announce the school winner.
7) Folks can join in at any time in the program and their points start at that particular time.
8) Reporting points is EASY – I will send a reminder email on Tues. and Wed. of each week.
All you need to do is: 1) click “reply” to my reminder email, 2) in the upper left of your reply, click on the reply arrow, 3) scroll to “Edit Subject” and 4) replace the subject with your points (ex. 1-14) for the week. That's it!

Dates of Competition:
Week #1: Wed., Feb. 18 ends Tues., Feb. 24
Week #2: Wed., Feb. 25 ends Tues., Mar. 3
Week #3: Wed., Mar. 4 ends Tues., Mar. 10
