Joanne Reeck Named as Chief Diversity Officer
I am very pleased to announce that Joanne Reeck, who currently serves as Director of Campus Activities and Orientation, has agreed to take on a concurrent role as Augsburg's Chief Diversity Officer, effective immediately.
In her new role, Joanne will spend approximately one-quarter of her time engaging widely across campus as a consultant and advocate for our mission-based commitment to intentional diversity in our life and work. Joanne will report to me in her role as Chief Diversity Officer, and we will name annual objectives for her work that will set priorities linked to Augsburg2019. One area of particular focus for Joanne's work that we already have determined is our overall efforts to increase faculty and staff diversity.
Joanne first came to Augsburg in 2008 as our Director of Campus Activities and Orientation. In that role, she has worked with student, faculty, and staff colleagues to create a signature orientation program for our day students while also facilitating a staggering growth in student engagement and activities.
Before coming to Augsburg, Joanne served in a variety of student affairs and admissions roles at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She received her BA degree in journalism and an MA in higher education from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She is active in several professional organizations, including the College Student Educators International and Minnesota College Personnel Association. In her free time, Joanne is a registered official for college and high school basketball.
Joanne Reeck will serve us all well in this important role. Her understanding of how to create more inclusive organizations and her skill and experience living out her commitment to intentional diversity promise to challenge and inspire all of us in our mission-based work.
Please join me in congratulating Joanne.

6th Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge
Time to take it to the Tommies! The Auggies and Tommies faculty/staff will be back at it for the 6th Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge. To date WE are 3-2 in these challenges.
Before you ask, YES we are returning to our old tried and true method of reporting points . . . to me!
Read below for details.
What: 8 weeks of friendly and healthy competition
Who: Any faculty and staff (full-time, part-time, adjunct)
When: Starting February 18 April 15
Where: Anywhere you want to work out as long as it is at least for 30 minutes (doesn't need to be all at once).
How:
30 minutes of activity = 1 point
60 minutes of activity = 2 points
14 points is the maximum points/week. Each week the winner will be announced based on the average for the team. The goal is to win the most weeks during this 8 week challenge.
· Fac/staff with an Augsburg HSA, who report their points on time every week will receive a $50 contribution to their HSA.
· Fac/staff without an HSA, who report their points on time every week will be entered in a drawing for various prizes.
Rules of the Competition:
1) Sign up by sending enke@augsburg.edu an email that you are interested in participating.
2) Keep track of the number of points earned each week (14 is the maximum/week).
3) A week starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday at midnight.
4) If you miss reporting your total by Wednesday @ 2:00 p.m., your points will not count for that particular week. You can participate the following week but you will not be allowed to use any points from the previous week.
5) This is a fun competition between Augsburg and St. Thomas but the MAIN goal is to get folks motivated to add some (or perhaps more) physical activity into their weekly routine.
6) Every week we will announce the school winner.
7) Folks can join in at any time in the program and their points start at that particular time.
8) Reporting points is EASY I will send a reminder email on Tues. and Wed. of each week.
All you need to do is: 1) click reply to my reminder email, 2) in the upper left of your reply, click on the reply arrow, 3) scroll to Edit Subject and 4) replace the subject with your points (ex. 1-14) for the week. That's it!
