Augsburg Receives $10 Million Gift for CSBR
On Friday, we shared with the Board of Regents and the campus community that Augsburg College had received a $10 million naming-level gift to the Center for Science, Business, and Religion. We will not be announcing the name of the donor at this time because we are working on a formal announcement event that we hope will be meaningful and include the donor's family. You will hear more about that celebration in the coming months as plans are confirmed.
The CSBR naming gift brings the total funds we have raised for the campaign to more than $40 million! And, in the interest of moving toward ground-breaking for the new building, the donor will make this gift in cash this year. I am truly humbled and inspired by the generosity and leadership of this donor, whose confidence in this project will inspire generosity in others throughout the final stretch of this campaign.
I am grateful to our Board of Regents and CSBR Campaign Chair Mike Good '71 for their leadership in the success of this campaign and to all the faculty and staff members who have supported this effort and inspired donors through the work you do.
It was a great day of celebration to honor the generosity of the donor and to recognize what we can accomplish together. To read more about the announcement and the campaign, see http://www.augsburg.edu/news and http://www.augsburg.edu/csbr .

#HipHopActivismConference
_________________________
This event is FREE to all and open to the public like all Hip Hop should be.
_________________________
In reaction to systemic U.S. police brutality toward People of Color, the global mass demonstrations for Mike Brown and Eric Garner, and the many unknown victims of police brutality, this conference wants to mobilize and organize those involved in Hip Hop to work to end these acts and systems of violence, torture, and oppression. Taking place on February 21 to observe the horrific assassination of Malcolm X in 1965, this conference is dedicated to the history, research, practice, and theory of Hip Hop activism. The conference will host workshops, roundtables, teach-ins, panels, and lectures. We plan for this conference to be a mixture of political analysis and practical street-line skill building. Hip Hop activism uses the four elements of Hip Hop for justice and peace and is most often concerned with defending youth, self-expression, and claiming space. The topics that Hip Hop activism most often covers include, but is not limited to, police brutality, the war on drugs, mass incarceration, racism, poverty, education, and the criminalization of Hip Hop culture. All are invited to attend and present, and we hope to make this a yearly event held at different locations across the globe.

22 Volunteers Still Needed for Scholarship Weekend
Dear Faculty,
Twenty-two faculty volunteers are still needed for Scholarship Weekend. This annual event brings a large group of high achieving high school students to campus not only to compete for scholarships but to spend the night on campus and get a better sense of the campus and the Augsburg community.
We need your help on Friday, Feb. 13th, to interview some of the talented student applicants who are vying for a President's Scholarship, an International President's Scholarship, or an Honors Regents Scholarship and a spot in the Honors Program.
As you may know, faculty interviews during Scholarship Weekend are an integral part of this event. Each applicant will participate in a 20-minute interview with two faculty members and a current Honors Program student. There is great anticipation and excitement for these students and for the faculty and staff who work with them over the course of their visit!
In person interviews will take place on Friday, Feb. 13th from 3pm to 6pm. If you cannot participate in these interviews but would like to help out, we are also looking for faculty to conduct phone interviews Monday-Wednesday, February 9-11, between either 9:00 am-12:00 pm or 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.
Any time you can give toward this process is greatly appreciated.
Participating faculty members are required to attend one of three training sessions. The training sessions are Feb. 9th from 10-11am or 11am-noon and Feb. 11th from 11-noon.
I hope you will consider this opportunity to meet with some talented prospective students and learn more about them, their academic interests, and their desire to come to Augsburg as well as to share some of your experiences with them.
Please send me (christi@augsburg.edu) a quick note if you can serve as an interviewer on Friday, and/or if you could be available to conduct phone interviews, or let me know if you have questions.
Again, my thanks for your assistance.
Tracy
