Public Safety and Facilities Announcements
New Gender-Neutral Restrooms on Campus
Augsburg College is committed to providing safe and accessible restrooms in each building for the entire campus community. In accordance with this goal, 5 restrooms will be permanently converted to gender-neutral and single-user by the end of the day TODAY in buildings that currently lack these type of facilities.
These specific restrooms include:
* 2 restrooms on 2nd floor of Lindell Library
* 2 restrooms on the Main Level of Foss Center (adjacent to the Green Room)
* Restroom on the 2nd floor of Science Hall

Last Day to Register for Spring Semester
Today is the last day to register for Spring Semester (Full Semester) courses. Students must have permission from the instructor to register this late in the term. The registration form is online at http://web.augsburg.edu/registrar/forms/registration.pdf
URGO Phase 1 Application Deadline
The Phase 1 Application for URGO summer research is due February 2nd! Applications can be found at www.augsburg.edu/urgo (click "Apply for Summer Research" orange tab on right).
There are two ways that students can do paid summer research with URGO:
URGO Summer Research Program: a 10-week, on-campus program where students are funded to join a faculty member's on-going research/creative line or carry out an individually-designed project. Full-time researchers receive a $4,000 stipend and support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, weekly seminars, and roundtable discussions with fellow researchers.
URGO Summer Research Assistantship: an opportunity to help a faculty member with an on-going research project or creative line by assisting with research tasks. Research assistants receive a $1,000 stipend for 100 hours of work, which can be completed at any time throughout the summer.

Faculty, CTL Wants to Support Your Work
Faculty, please visit http://inside.augsburg.edu/ctl/grant-applications/ to access the call for proposals and applications for the Provost's Internationalization Travel Grants and the Summer Scholarship Grants. Applications for both grants are due by February 9th.
The Faculty Development Committee is currently considering redesigning the format for ICD Grants. You may refer to the 2014 ICD Summer Grant Call for Proposals for general information about the grants, but specific details regarding levels of support and the process for grant implementation will be made available in February. The deadline for ICD grant applications is March 2nd.

Urban Leaders Seek Summer Interns
Future leaders are currently being sought for employment in a leadership development summer internship program for college students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds called Urban Scholars.
The 12-week program is a partnership between the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Public Schools, Metropolitan Council, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, State of Minnesota, PCL Construction, and Greater Twin Cities United Way. Urban Scholars provides:
· Full-time, competitively paid, professional resume-building work experience for graduates and undergraduate students.
· Direct access to agency leaders including but not limited to the Mayor, City Council members, Department Heads, Superintendents, and Executive Directors.
· A team-based community project that will be presented to City Council, community stakeholders, senior management, and colleagues.
· Leadership and communications skills development as part of the Urban Scholars Leadership Institute
· Mentors to provide guidance to achieve professional goals.
· Opportunities to create valuable professional networks.
This highly competitive summer internship starts on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, and ends on Friday, August 14, 2015. Applications will be accepted until Friday, February 20, 2015. This opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate college students regardless of academic major. Public sector experience is highly desired but not required.
Requirements:
Must be enrolled and in good standing at an accredited two or four year college, university, graduate program, or law school at the time of application.
Must have completed first year of post-secondary education.
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Must be able to participate on a full-time basis for 12 weeks (40 hours per week)
Please note that recent graduates (May of 2015) are eligible for participation, and there is no residency requirement.

Going Away Open House for Leslie Larson
Leslie Larson, Event & Conference Coordinator in the Event & Conference Planning department has announced her departure from Augsburg and will be leaving us as of January 30, 2015. On Wednesday, January 28, we will celebrate Leslie Larson's 7.5 years on campus with a going away open house in the Student Art Gallery of the Christensen Center from 2:30pm-4:00pm. Budget Manager Training Starts Next Week
Training for budget managers will be held:
Wednesday, Feb. 4, 9-10 a.m. in OGC 100
Monday, Feb. 9, 2-3 p.m. in OGC 100
Thursday, Feb. 12, 2-3 p.m. in the Augsburg Room, Christensen
All budget managers should plan to attend one of these trainings. You will be provided with the framework and strategy behind the FY2016 budget. Also, specific information and direction will be given on the new format for your budget submission.
Focused Conversations: TODAY/TOMORROW
The topic for this week is Focused Conversations is: "Finishing what we've started: Adult undergraduate enrollment."
The sessions will provide an overview of the trends and opportunity in the adult degree completion market, then engage participants in discussing ideas around how Augsburg can attract and meet the needs of returning undergraduate students.
William Mullen, vice president of Enrollment Management, will facilitate two sessions:

Housing Expo

All Day students will receive a computer generated, randomly assigned, selection number based on class status. Those with the highest numbers will be the fist to choose their housing for 2015-2016. Find current Day students to room with and add the selection numbers of everyone in your group. Once you have the total, find the appropriate time slot and come to the Expo with your student ID and printed selection number email.

Physics Students Learn About Grad School Biochem
The first Society of Physics Students event of the semester is tonight! East Carolina University graduate student Madison Sullivan will be meeting students over pizza to talk about what it is like to be in graduate school (Science 21 at 6:00 pm.) She is a second year graduate student in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology currently visiting Augsburg college to do lipid related experiments using Langmuir Monolayers.
Madison will also give a Chemistry Seminar on Tuesday Jan. 27th at 1:00 in SCI 315 entitled: "Optimizing Oxidative Phosphorylation by the Manipulation of Mitochondrial Cardiolipin."

Staney Rostad Retirement Party is Tomorrow
Please join us in offering a fond farewell to Staney Rostad, AVP of Finance & Administration and Controller, tomorrow, Jan. 27, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in OGC 100. She is retiring after four years at Augsburg College and numerous years working as a financial leader in the for-profit world. During her time at Augsburg, Staney guided her team in the Business Office and in Central Services, and even stepped in as interim CFO for seven months. Come by, enjoy refreshments, and wish her happy days in her well-deserved retirement.
Need Health Insurance?
CCHP will be hosting two MN Sure navigators from Health Access on Wednesday 2/3/15 from 10-2 pm in the Riverside Room of Christensen Center for anyone who may be needing to enroll in a health insurance plan. The deadline for enrollment in the MN Sure health plans is 2/15/15.
We will also be tabling on 1/28 from 12-1 pm if you have questions about the enrollment.
The appointments will take about 45-60 minutes and you can sign up for a specific time slot by calling the CCHP office at 612-330-1707. Below is a checklist of info you will need to apply:

Date of birth for everyone in household (not just those applying)

Documents for other sources of income (social security, unemployment, self-employment, etc.)
W2 form or Employer Tax ID Number (EIN)

Information about any employer-provided health insurance available to each person applying (request this from the employer)
Think of a username and password for your MNSure account
DEPENDENT INFORMATION: Make sure you know whether your parent/guardian claims you as a dependent on their tax forms. If they do, you need to bring the above information for your PARENT/GUARDIAN. If possible, ask your parent/guardian to be available via phone from during the event in case you need additional information from them.

Augsburg Total Wellness--Health Screening
The Augsburg Total Wellness program is up and running and our first wellness activity for 2015 is quickly approaching. January 27th through the 29th you will have an opportunity to participate in a health screening event that will include a fasting based biometric test. If you have not signed up for the screening, there is still time to sign up.
Heath screening includes: Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, height and weight.
***This is a fasting test -- please do not eat for 12 hours before the screening. Drink water and take prescribed medications.

Carol Enke to Receive Marie Berg Award
The Minnesota Coalition of Women in Athletic Leadership, organizers of the Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day, will recognize inspiring and influential leaders on Wed., Feb. 4. Carol Enke will be recognized at the even with the Marie Berg Award for Excellence in Education.
Enke was honored with the Lou Keller Award from the Minnesota Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) in 2013.
