Scholastic Connections Applications Available
Scholarship Opportunity for Undergraduate Students of Color
Applications are now being accepted for Scholastic Connections for 2015-16. Successful applicants for 5 available positions will receive a $5,000 scholarship and be paired with an alum of color who will serve as the student's mentor.
Eligibility requirements, information about Scholastic Connections and applications are available at the SC web page. Go to Inside Augsburg, A to Z Directory, Scholastic Connections. http://www.augsburg.edu/connections and click on Application Requirements.
Students who receive full tuition scholarships: Promise Scholars, Act 6 Scholars, full tuition President Scholars, etc. are NOT eligible for SC.
Applications and letters of recommendation are due March 1.
Attention Faculty and Staff: If you know of a student of color who could benefit from a $5,000 scholarship and work with a mentor, please nominate the student for Scholastic Connections. Nomination forms and information about the program are available at the SC web page, Application Requirements. Nominations are due March 1.

Food Service Hours This Weekend
Nabo is open from 10am-2pm on Saturday and the Special is a Chicken Caesar Wrap. Nabo is closed on Sunday.
Einsteins is open from 7:30am-5:00pm on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
The Commons is open from 11:30am-1:00pm for Brunch and 5pm-7pm for Dinner on Saturday and Sunday.

J Dilla Documentary Film Screening
Save The Kids Augsburg College is continuing our movie series in honor of the late great James Dewitt Yancy aka J Dilla or Jay Dee, we will be showing 3 Documentary films about this wonderful human being and musical genius to ensure people learn of his history, legacy and tremendous contributions to Hip Hop but music as a whole and the world.

Phase 1 URGO Summer Research App - Due Monday
The Phase 1 Application for URGO summer research is due February 2nd! Applications can be found at www.augsburg.edu/urgo (click "Apply for Summer Research" orange tab on right).
There are two ways that students can do paid summer research with URGO:
URGO Summer Research Program: a 10-week, on-campus program where students are funded to join a faculty member's ongoing research/creative line or carry out an individually-designed project. Full-time researchers receive a $4,000 stipend and support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, weekly seminars, and roundtable discussions with fellow researchers.
URGO Summer Research Assistantship: an opportunity to help a faculty member with an on-going research project or creative line by assisting with research tasks. Research assistants receive a $1,000 stipend for 100 hours of work, which can be completed at any time throughout the summer.

Budget Manager Training Starts Next Week
Training for budget managers will be held:

All budget managers should plan to attend one of these trainings. You will be provided with the framework and strategy behind the FY2016 budget. Also, specific information and direction will be given on the new format for your budget submission.

Seeing the Need: Karolynn Lestrud '68 Gives Back
If Karolynn Lestrud '68 ever had any doubt that her $100,000 pledge for the Center for Science, Business, and Religion (CSBR) would benefit a worthy and necessary cause, it was erased when she toured the Augsburg campus last spring.
"I was astonished at the level of work those kids were doing, working with scientists in the field as well as professors at the school. They have their names on articles in major scientific journals. For those pursuing science careers, that kind of real world experience is an enormous leg up."
Much has changed since Lestrud, who was recruited by a passionate advocate visiting her home town of Menomonie, Wisconsin, first arrived on campus. Enduring the freshman rituals of those days, wearing beanies and cleaning funky old apartments for upper classmen, helped her bond with fellow students who became lifelong friends. An English, French, and secondary education major, she lived in dorms and the French house, Chez Nous, and has fond memories of her experience.
"I got assigned to work for Norma Noonan, a political science teacher who was incredibly bright and tough as nails. What a role model. She was amazing," Lestrud said. "I didn't realize it at the time, but Augsburg was a very safe place to become really independent. A lot of people were looking out for you, but not in the way that your parents or people in your hometown did. It was such a nurturing environment, and faculty members were so supportive and encouraging." She sees the same culture in today's science department.
About the need for widespread participation in projects like the CSBR, she has no doubt. "Adding my gift to move it forward is one step closer to breaking ground!"

Job opportunity For Students
My name is Frankie, and I'm a student at Augsburg. I'm looking for students who want to make some money and garner job experience. I use a wheelchair and require assistance with daily living tasks. I'm looking to hire some personal care attendant's (PCAs). The pay is $12.73 an hour. I need someone to work Wednesdays 5:00PM-11PM.
