By the time you read this, over 250 sessions will have taken place between tutors and Augsburg students in the Writing Lab. Join them!
Here are the hours:
Monday: 11:10 a.m. - 1:40 p.m. and 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:30 - 3 p.m., 3:30 - 6 p.m., and 7:30 -10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30 - 6 p.m. and 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursday: 12:30 - 3 p.m., 3:30 - 6 p.m., and 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30 - 7 p.m.

Employee Training: Register Today

"Civil Discourse: Strategies for Communicating in a Diverse Workplace."
Don't miss your chance to take part in this development opportunity. This course will provide participants a valuable set of tools as we learn to communicate across our diverse workplace.
The sessions are open to all faculty and staff at no cost, with two more opportunities to participate in this course. The sessions will be facilitated by Jeffrey Cookson, Organizational Development Manager and Global Diversity Inclusion Specialist from MRA Trusight.

The training will cover the following aspects of communication:
- Differing definitions of respect
- Common communication break-downs
- Characteristics of tactful and diplomatic communicators

- Tips for adjusting one's own style of communication
- A communication Action Plan for use during times of difficult or problematic communication

How to Schedule Your Onsite Health Evaluation Appointment
1. Register online at www.myinteractivehealth.com First time website users can register using sponsor code V9DXA.
2. Click the "Schedule Your Appointment" box at the top of the page.
3. Select your appointment location, date and time and complete your health questionnaire.
4. Continue until you are prompted to confirm your appointment.
5. Send your lab results directly to your physician. (Provide your physician's name, fax and phone number when you register for your health evaluation).
You may also schedule your appointment by calling Interactive Health at (800) 840-6100 between 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Central Time
You will need to Fast before your appointment
Please fast for 12 hours before your test. Drink plenty of plain water - no food or other beverages. If you are diabetic, pregnant, on medication, or have a medical condition that will prevent you from fasting 12 hours, please follow your doctor's instructions regarding fasting.
Unable to attend onsite? Participate at a nearby lab!
You may select a lab location when you register online. Or call Interactive Health at (800) 840-6100 and ask to Test at a Lab. If you use this option, please schedule by October 28, 2013 and complete your test no later than November 11, 2013.
Spanish Conversation Meets This Thursday
Looking for a chance to improve your Spanish conversation skills? Then we've got just the thing for you - Spanish Conversation group! Please join us as we gather to chat in Spanish, laugh and have a bit of fun. From beginning to advanced, all levels are welcome! We meet every Thursday in the Riverside Room, 2nd floor Christensen, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Signs will be posted. Join us for 10 minutes or for the whole session, whatever works for you. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Benefit Open Enrollment November 6 - 20
We are pleased to announce we have made significant strides forward in creating a "green" open enrollment, with a new online process. To ensure all employees have plenty of time to review the materials, we will send an email on October 14 with details about our 2014 plan offerings and instructions on how to enroll.
All benefit eligible employees will need to complete the enrollment form, even if they wish to maintain current plan options. Employees must submit the enrollment form online, no paper forms will be accepted. Human resources will host three help sessions for employees who would like assistance with submitting the online enrollment forms.
Representatives from HealthPartners, Interactive Wellness, OptumHealth and Hays will be at the information sessions to answer any questions you have about our plan offerings for 2014.

Augsburg Choir Alumni Honor Leland Sateren
Nearly 200 Augsburg Choir alumni will join forces on Sunday, October 13 at 4:00 p.m. to present a concert of music honoring Leland B. Sateren (1913-2007) on the celebration of what would have been his 100th birthday. The concert, held at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina will also include Sateren anecdotes, hymn singing and a free-will offering for the Sateren Scholarship at Augsburg, followed by a post-concert reception. The event is open to the public.
Help Translate Children's Books to Spanish
This year we will continue with the translation of children's books to donate to CLUES. Our first gathering is this Thurs., 10/10, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in OM 201. Drop in and stay as long as you can. We will have some snacks and beverages to munch on. Everyone that speaks Spanish is invited, whether you speak a lot or a little, it doesn't matter. Bring your laptop, if possible.
All of these books will be part of a new lending library at CLUES, for families with young children. A sincere thanks to all who have donated books for this project.

The Strommen Center for Meaningful Work (Career & Internship Services) is hosting an event "Auggies Connect with Employers" on Thursday, October 17 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Suite 100 of the Christensen Center.
Students are invited into our center for casual one-on-one conversation with employers from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Target Stores, NumberWorks/Salo, and Career Professionals. Give and Take...Art Club Meet and Greet Friday
Art Club would like to invite Augsburg students, staff, and faculty to its first "Meet and Greet" inspired by Give and Take. This is Art Club's first campus wide event of the year and encourages everyone to participate. Art Club hopes to use this as an opportunity to expand its programming with other groups throughout the year.
Using the simple questions: " I Know/ I Want to Know" our Meet and Greet will offer conversation, games, and food to create new relationships and foster further connections this year at school.

Paul '84 and Nancy '85 Mueller Sponsor CSBR Room
Regent Paul S. Mueller '84 and Spouse Nancy Mackey Mueller '85 Give Study Area in CSBR
Paul S. Mueller '84 and Nancy Mackey Mueller '85 met during physics tutoring sessions that Nancy led as a student. Science plays a major role in their lives, and now they are giving both current and estate plan gifts to support the Center for Science, Business, and Religion. Through their gift, which includes 25% of their estate, they will name a study area in the new building.
Augsburg prepared the family well for scientific careers
Paul has served as an Augsburg College regent since 2005. He is a staff consultant and division chair in General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. He is a Professor of Medicine and of Biomedical Ethics in Mayo Clinic's medical school. Nancy teaches physics at Mayo High School in Rochester, and earlier taught chemistry and physical science. She has a master's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland. Early in her career, she helped design submarines.

Norwegian Supper
Tickets are on sale for the Norwegian Lutefisk Supper to be served at Highview Christiania Lutheran Church on October 12, 2013. The menu will include many popular Norwegian baked goods in addition to the traditional lutefisk and meatballs. Tickets are $16 for adults and $7.00 for children 10 and under. Advance ticket sales only. No tickets will be sold at the door. Call Marilyn Suter at (651)460-4236 for tickets. The settings are at 4:15, 5:45, and 7:15 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come early to listen to the music of the Highview Country Singers who will be playing from 3:15 - 7:15 p.m.. There will also be a craft and bake sale, sponsored by the Highview Quilters, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. to raise funds to support their blanket and quilt mission.
Highview Christiania has recently been placed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is located at 26690 Highview Ave. West, Farmington, MN, in Eureka Township.
