Last Day to Request Pick Up for Shredding
It is time to go through your office files and office storerooms and purge confidential documents according to your retention rules. We will bring a document destruction service to campus next week. Place a facilities work request TODAY, Friday, Oct. 11 to request pick-up of your confidential documents for shredding. If you have questions about what is confidential, please contact your manager. Sorry, we cannot accommodate personal shredding.

There are still spaces available for the upcoming employee training;
"Civil Discourse: Strategies for Communicating in a Diverse Workplace."
Don't miss your chance to take part in this development opportunity. This course will provide participants a valuable set of tools as we learn to communicate across our diverse workplace.
The sessions are open to all faculty and staff at no cost, with two more opportunities to participate in this course. The sessions will be facilitated by Jeffrey Cookson, Organizational Development Manager and Global Diversity Inclusion Specialist from MRA Trusight.

The training will cover the following aspects of communication:
- Differing definitions of respect
- Common communication break-downs
- Characteristics of tactful and diplomatic communicators
- A self-assessment of various communication styles
- Tips for adjusting one's own style of communication
- A communication Action Plan for use during times of difficult or problematic communication

Bioethics Summer Research Fellowship - Mayo Clinic
On behalf of the Mayo Clinic, URGO announces the 2014 Vann Fellowship for summer undergraduate research in biomedical ethics! This fellowship is highly competitive and each college may only endorse two applicants. Applications for Augsburg's internal competition are due November 12, 2013.
Program details:
- Work with physician and research mentors within Mayo's Program in Professionalism and Ethics
- 8-10 weeks of full-time research
- $5,000 stipend
- Research topics may include (but are not limited to):
- Clinical ethics
- Informed patient consent, competence, and dementia
- Advanced directives, surrogate decision-makers, cultural values
- Ethical issues in end-of-life care and life-sustaining treatments
- Ethics in biomedical research, stem-cell research, and transplants
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in undergraduate courses for the fall of 2014
-Strong interest in biomedical ethics and/or clinical ethics (students with any major may apply)
-Must be at least a sophomore standing

How to Schedule Your Onsite Health Evaluation Appointment
1. Register online at www.myinteractivehealth.com First time website users can register using sponsor code V9DXA.
2. Click the "Schedule Your Appointment" box at the top of the page.
3. Select your appointment location, date and time and complete your health questionnaire.
4. Continue until you are prompted to confirm your appointment.
5. Send your lab results directly to your physician. (Provide your physician's name, fax and phone number when you register for your health evaluation).
You may also schedule your appointment by calling Interactive Health at (800) 840-6100 between 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Central Time
You will need to Fast before your appointment
Please fast for 12 hours before your test. Drink plenty of plain water - no food or other beverages. If you are diabetic, pregnant, on medication, or have a medical condition that will prevent you from fasting 12 hours, please follow your doctor's instructions regarding fasting.
Unable to attend onsite? Participate at a nearby lab!
You may select a lab location when you register online. Or call Interactive Health at (800) 840-6100 and ask to Test at a Lab. If you use this option, please schedule by October 28, 2013 and complete your test no later than November 11, 2013.
Follow up of Krista Tippett Christensen Symposium
Did you miss Krista Tippett's Christensen Symposium address on October 1? There are a few ways you can still learn more about the topic of "Einstein's God: Revisiting Science and Religion in a New Century"? .
1) Check out Tippett's book, "Einstein's God: Conversations About Science and the Human Spirit", available in the Augsburg College Bookstore.

The check-in location for Academic Advising has moved to the Gage Center Information Desk, 2nd floor Lindell Library. Students, faculty, and staff with appointments or seeking walk-in advising stop first at the Gage Center Information Desk. Your advisor will meet you in the Gage Center. The Information Desk is centrally located at the top of main library stair case.
Mann Receives Auggie Pride Award for September
Joe Mann, web manager in the Office of Marketing and Communication, has been awarded the Auggie Pride Award for the month of September. Mann was nominated for his efforts in re-launching the College website after a redesign of the site. He worked particularly hard to make the site compatible with mobile devices. Please join the Staff Senate in congratulating Joe.
The Auggie Pride Incentive Program comes out of Staff Senate's desire to recognize outstanding staff on a more regular basis (monthly), and tap the collective mind power for great ideas. If you would like to nominate someone or have a suggestion email staffsenate@augsburg.edu.

Benefit Open Enrollment November 6 - 20
We are pleased to announce we have made significant strides forward in creating a "green" open enrollment, with a new online process. To ensure all employees have plenty of time to review the materials, we will send an email on October 14 with details about our 2014 plan offerings and instructions on how to enroll.
All benefit eligible employees will need to complete the enrollment form, even if they wish to maintain current plan options. Employees must submit the enrollment form online, no paper forms will be accepted. Human resources will host three help sessions for employees who would like assistance with submitting the online enrollment forms.
Representatives from HealthPartners, Interactive Wellness, OptumHealth and Hays will be at the information sessions to answer any questions you have about our plan offerings for 2014.

This stage combat workshop has explored professional techniques on how to safely perform fighting and staged violence, with and without weapons!
