Shredding Service Coming - Clean Your Files

It is time to go through your office files and office storerooms and purge confidential documents according to your retention rules. We will bring a document destruction service to campus next week. Place a facilities work request by THIS FRIDAY, Oct. 11 to request pick-up of your confidential documents for shredding. If you have questions about what is confidential, please contact your manager. Sorry, we cannot accommodate personal shredding.

By the time you read this, over 250 sessions will have taken place between tutors and Augsburg students in the Writing Lab. Join them!
Here are the hours:

Monday: 11:10 a.m. - 1:40 p.m. and 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:30 - 3 p.m., 3:30 - 6 p.m., and 7:30 -10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30 - 6 p.m. and 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursday: 12:30 - 3 p.m., 3:30 - 6 p.m., and 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30 - 7 p.m.
Sunday: 5 - 8 p.m.

Oct. 10 & 14 in Riverside: Faculty-led Abroad 14-15

Calling all Augsburg faculty interested in leading a study abroad program next academic year -- Our office is preparing a new (shorter!) proposal form, which will be announced at our upcoming Info Sessions. In addition, our renowned Center for Global Education has launched some new locations in Europe, where they can provide logistical and academic support for your program!

So please plan to attend one of our two Info Sessions, to learn more about the new proposal form, new locations for programs, and hear ideas from your colleagues on best practices in leading programs abroad!

Career Quick Hours - Wed./Thurs.

The Strommen Center for Meaningful Work has Career Quick Stop every
Wednesday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and Thursdays from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Stop by the
Strommen Center, Christensen Center, Suite 100

These walk-in hours are meant for quick career question and short resume reviews. Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

$250,000 Endowment Grant Received

Last week, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community generously made a $250,000 grant to endow scholarships for Native American students at Augsburg College. This generous grant will be added to their existing endowment fund that was established in the 1990s, bringing the total endowment fund balance to over $400,000. Earnings from the fund provide scholarships for Native American students to pursue their education at Augsburg. Augsburg College Regent Bonnie Wallace was instrumental in helping to successfully request this grant. Bonnie was the first director of American Indian Support Program and served in that role for almost twenty years. If you know Bonnie, please take a moment to thank her for her extraordinary work on our behalf!

Annual Fall Blood Drive Coming

CCHP welcomes Memorial Blood Center to campus on Wednesday 10/30/13 from 10 - 4 p.m. in the East Commons for our annual fall blood drive. Several of you took advantage of signing up to donate at the health fair but there are still many slots available to donate.

Please go online at www.mbc.org/searchdrives and enter sponsor code 0027. There you will see what times are available and what can work for your schedule.

Halloween Safe Block

Kids from the community will come to Augsburg to Trick-or Treat in Urness Hall. Kids of faculty, friends, student families and all kids are welcome to come join to Trick-or-Treat. We need lots of students to volunteer to make this event awesome! Hand out candy, be a tour guide, activities, and more! Campus student organizations can volunteer also decorating in the floor challenge, fun filled activities, & much more! (Great source of advertisement!)

In particular, Scripps has established a lengthy track record of major contributions to the betterment of health and the human condition. The institute has become internationally recognized for its research into immunology, molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, neurosciences, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, virology, and synthetic vaccine development. Scripps Research Institute faculty includes three Nobel laureates and numerous members of the National Academy of Sciences (including its Institute of Medicine), American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. You Are the Weapon Workshop Showing

Augsburg College Theatre Department's You Are The Weapon workshop with Annie Enneking will be having a showing of the work they have done over the past few weeks!

This stage combat workshop has explored professional techniques on how to safely perform fighting and staged violence, with and without weapons!

The public showing will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15 in the Theatre!

Women, War and Drones: "An Afghan Woman Speaks Out" will be held at Augsburg

Malalai Joya is a human rights activist and recipient of numerous international awards. She has been called "the bravest woman in Afghanistan." She was suspended by the Afghan Parliament in 2007 for her criticism of the warlord and drug barons.

Co-sponsored by: Department of Political Science, Anne Pederson Women's Resource Center, and the Sabo Center for Citizenship and Learning and many other off-campus groups.
