Midwest Medieval History Conference at Augsburg

The 52nd Annual Midwest Medieval History Conference will take place on the campus of Augsburg College this Friday and Saturday, October 18 and 19, in the Marshall Room.

"Masters, Means & Methods: the (Liberal) Arts in the Medieval World" is the theme of this year's conference. It concerns the transmission of knowledge, from masters to students, from practitioners to audience. It includes the liberal arts, the fine arts, and even the practical arts. Topics include monastic as well as university education; the history of science, music, mathematics, and art history; the education of women; and professional training in guilds.

The conference keynote speaker is Jordan Sramek, founder and artistic director of The Rose Ensemble, who will present "Devotional Laude: Praise and Procession within the First Franciscan Communities."

Blood Drive Sign-Up Tabling

Memorial Blood Center will be on campus on Monday 10/21 from 11:30 - 1:30 p.m. tabling in the Christensen Center lobby if you are interested in signing up to donate blood at our annual fall blood drive which will be on Wednesday 10/30/13.

If you have not had the chance to sign-up online or if you have questions about donating, please stop by the table to get a time to donate. Augsburg has always donated generously at our blood drives and we hope that trend continues.

Survey on Transit - You Could Win $50 Gift Card

Augsburg is part of the Central Corridor Anchor Partnership. The Anchor Partnership has been working with Metro Transit to develop a survey of transportation habits and interests. All 12 of the Anchor institutions are asking their faculty, staff, and students to complete the survey during the month of October. The goal is to gather information on transportation that can be used to develop a new transit pass program to launch next summer in conjunction with the opening of the Central Corridor transit line and new bus routes. The transit pass will be available to Anchor partners at a more deeply discounted rate and will be accompanied by a promotional effort to encourage students, faculty and staff to utilize transit.

2014 Annual Benefit Enrollment

All open enrollment materials have been posted to the HR Moodle, http://moodle.augsburg.edu/moodlecommunity/course/view.php?id=329

The annual benefit enrollment period opens Wednesday, November 6 and ends Wednesday, November 20. All forms must be submitted online no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20.

All benefit eligible employees will need to complete the enrollment forms. Benefit eligible faculty and staff, working .750 (3/4) full-time equivalency (FTE) or greater are considered benefit eligible. Enrollment forms will be submitted on-line this year. No paper forms will be accepted.

We strongly encourage all benefit eligible faculty and staff to attend one of the five benefit information sessions. Sessions are scheduled as follows:

McNair Birthday & Open House

Celebrate the anniversary of Ronald E. McNair, whose life and academic pursuits inspired the creation of the McNair Scholars Program. McNair was one of the seven astronauts that died during the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger. His legacy and commitment to higher education continues through the McNair Program, as Scholars pursue their doctoral degrees and contribute to the growing number of underrepresented groups in graduate study.

Clothing Donations Needed

We'll be collecting new and gently used clothing at the Welcome Desk in Christensen Center to support the Minnesota Internship Center's free store, which serves homeless and housing vulnerable youth attending four charter high schools in the Twin Cities.
