Crime Advisory: Thefts

Crime Advisory Sept. 13th 2013

A variety of personal property thefts have been reported to Public Safety this week. Please remember to keep your belongings with you or locked up in your office, your residence, or in the trunk of your vehicle.

Keep the following tips in mind to help prevent crime on campus and keep your belongings safe!

YOU CAN HELP PREVENT CRIME AT AUGSBURG!

Don't leave your valuables unattended and unsecured in public places.
- Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in drawer or cabinet. Better yet, take your valuables with you or leave them at home.
- Always lock your office even if you will only be gone for a minute or two.
- Always lock your residence room, even when you are present!
- If possible, lock bicycles with a U lock around the frame and any "quick release" tires.
- Be aware of your surroundings and immediately report any suspicious activity or persons to Public Safety Dispatch (612-330-1717 or ext. 1717 from a campus phone) or the Minneapolis Police.

WEC Update, Weekend 2

Weekend and Evening College (WEC) Update
Fall, 2013: Weekend 2, September 20-21

Hi everyone:

First, words of thanks and apologies!

THANKS to each of the professors who were so great in supporting the "Connection Centers" during the first weekend of this Fall semester. It was wonderful to see everyone who participated! We estimate that close to 600 were served at the 6 connection centers on Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon. That would not have happened were it not for your (professors) willingness to coordinate when to take a break.

MY APOLOGIES! Quite obviously, we were overwhelmed on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and ran out of food. Honestly, we had no idea how many to expect. Thankfully, we had enough bagels and rolls on Saturday morning. However, while the strawberry shortcake was enjoyed by the first 100 or so people, after that we started to run out. First we saw the strawberry supply exhausted. Then, the shortcake was gone. We will do better next time!

Students and WEC faculty, as always, if there is something with which you believe our office can assist, feel free to contact me (507-993-4288, wolfek@augsburg.edu). Have a great second WEC weekend!

Regards,

Dr. Karl G. Wolfe, Interim Director
Augsburg Adult Undergraduate Programs
Director, Rochester Campus

Theater Department - Auditions

Main Stage Theater Auditions - Antigonick, Monday & Tuesday, September 30 & October 1, 2013

The Augsburg Theater Arts Department will hold auditions for its main stage production, Antigonick by Sophokles, translated by Anne Carson, directed by Martha Johnson.

Auditions will be held in Tjornhom-Nelson Theater, in Foss Center, Monday, September 30 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 1 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. An audition sign-up sheet will be posted on the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater door in the Atrium of the Foss Center.

All Augsburg students are welcome to audition! Audition monologues and copies of the Antigonick have been placed on reserve in the library and at the Theater department desk in Foss Center. Please choose and carefully prepare 2 monologues from those provided. It is recommended that you read the entire play in order to have a sense of the tone of the piece and the nature of the characters.

- Please arrive at the audition site at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Those who arrive after their scheduled time may not be allowed to audition.
- Please wear appropriate attire to auditions. (I.e. dress accordingly as they would for a professional audition. No jeans, flip-flops, t-shirts, crop tops, halter tops, etc.)
- Please bring to auditions a complete list of all conflicts you may have with the rehearsal and performance schedule including work, classes, social commitments (such as weddings, anniversaries, etc.) and ensemble performances. Actors should declare all known conflicts at the time of the general audition.

Call-back auditions will be held Thursday, October 3 from 7 - 10 p.m.
Rehearsals will begin November 11, 2013 and performance dates are January 31 - February 9.

Description of Antigonick:
In her highly innovative translations of ancient plays, acclaimed poet Anne Carson "combines contemporary language with the traditional structures and rhetoric of Greek tragedy, opening up [ancient tales] . . .to a modern audience. . ." In Antigonick, Carson emphasizes the importance of time-and timing-in tragedy, by introducing a silent character, Nick, who is always on stage measuring things while the events of the play unfold. Antigone is "here given an entirely fresh language and presentation."
