The end is near and papers, applications, reports, revisions will soon be due. Don't panic. Do find the WL now! It's located in Lindell Library, street level, just left of the circulation desk. Here are the hours:

Mondays: 11:10 - 1:40 and 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00; and 7:30 - 10 PM
Wednesdays: 3:30 - 6:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 12:30 - 3:00; 3:30 - 6:00 and 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Fridays: 4:00 - 6:30 PM
Sundays: 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Surviving and Thriving in These Times

"Surviving and Thriving in These Times" is for Augsburg faculty and staff who want to come together on a regular basis to support each other and share ideas for action (either on campus or in the community--or both) related to what's going on in the world around us.

This idea came from talking with many people around campus who feel angry, isolated, frustrated, hopeless, etc. about the new Trump administration and what they think it might bring.

Mary Laurel True (Sabo Center) will host the gathering once a week for an hour and 15 minutes. People can come as their schedule allows and for as many weeks as it seems useful. The group will have a very organic in nature.

The group's main focus will be to find ways to take action--and that doesn't mean that we will all be doing the same actions or that everyone has to participate. We will also have time for learning organizing skills, if the group so chooses.

I hope that this will be a life-giving, community-building, supportive and active way to face the "challenges" that many of us feel are coming our way.

Please let me know if you're interested in joining this group -- and if you'd prefer to meet at lunch time or after work around 4:00pm or 4:30pm.

Food Service Hours

Einsteins is open from 7:30 am-9 pm, with the Late Night Menu starting at 7 pm.

Nabo is open from 7:30 am-8 pm, with Hot Food starting at 10 am

The Commons is open from 7:30 am-7 pm
Breakfast 7:30-9:45 am
Continental Breakfast 9:45-11 am
Lunch 11am-1:30 pm
Light Lunch 1:30-4:30 pm
Dinner 4:30-7 pm

Come to The Commons on Monday, December 12, for Late Night Breakfast from 10pm to 11pm. Free food with your student ID, served to you by Augsburg Faculty.

On Thursday, December 15, Einsteins will be closing at 12pm. On Friday, December 16, all Food Service Locations will be closing at 1:30 p.m. Over Winter Break, Nabo and The Commons will be closed. Einsteins will be open over break, Monday-Friday from 7:30pm-1:30pm with a Limited Menu. The Commons will reopen on Sunday, January 8, at 5pm for Dinner, and normal hours will resume for all locations on Monday, January 9.

Grants for Environmental Stewardship Available

Looking for students, faculty, staff who are interested in grant money for environmental stewardship! Projects could include: class learning activities, supplies for research, conferences or workshops, tangible purchases (i.e.- water fountains, compost bags, bus or nice ride passes), reuse/recycle projects (i.e.- clothing drive), or any idea you may have! Get Paid for Your Internship - Apply Now

Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?

You may be able to do just that because of a grant recently awarded to Augsburg College. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.

To be eligible:

* Students must be in good academic standing (2.0+ GPA)

* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship (Second semester sophomores can apply as long as they hold junior standing BEFORE the internship begins)

* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study) Not sure if you are eligible? Email studentfinances@augsburg.edu or check your awards package

* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations

* Internships will take place Spring 2017, Summer 2017, Fall 2017

Act now! Priority consideration is given to students who complete the short Augsburg application, so we recommend you complete it soon.

NODAPL Meeting - Tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

There will be a meeting in the Riverside Room at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss how the Augsburg community can help the No Dakota Access Pipeline effort. We are currently working to organize an event around creating items to send the water protectors there as well as educating people about what is happening at Standing Rock. All are welcome to join us on Wednesday!

Food Service Updates

Nabo Update: Thank you for bearing with us through the last couple weeks and especially the last few days while we dealt with a crashed register system. The register is fully functional at Nabo again and all forms of payment are accepted. Once again thank you for your patience and understanding.

Career Quick Stop

Students! Only three more Career Quick Stops until winter break. Stop by Suite 100 of the Christensen Center this Tuesday & Thursday from 2:30-4:00 p.m. or next Tuesday, December 13th from 2:30-4:00 p.m.

These walk-in hours are meant for quick career questions and short resume reviews. Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Quick Stop will resume in January!

Engman Writing Prize - Submit by December 18

The John Engman Writing Prize, a literary competition sponsored by Murphy Square and the Augsburg English Department, is awarded each year to promising writers. This year's submission deadline is Sunday, December 18. Judges of the competition will select winners in each of the categories of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction.

To enter writers must submit the following:

Short Fiction - One complete short story of not more than 15 pages.
Creative Non-fiction - One complete piece not longer than 15 pages.
Poetry - At least three poems.

All writers must be enrolled at Augsburg College and may enter each of the categories as often as they wish, but they may only win in one. Names of writers must not be on the works submitted.

The prize was named in honor of poet and Augsburg alumnus John Engman who died in 1996. Judges for the contest are English Department faculty members. The judges reserve the right to withhold awards if entries in specific categories are not of winning quality; they may also increase the number of awards in a category that has attracted entries of obvious merit. Winners will be notified in January.

DAPL Education Evening - Thursday 5-7 pm.

There will be a Dakota Access Pipeline event from 5-7 pm. on Thursday in the East Commons. This event is meant to educate people in the Augsburg community about what is happening at Standing Rock as well as to show them how they can help support the water protectors there. There will be Indigenous and First Nation speakers, a water ceremony, and opportunities to make signs and banners that will be sent to the camp. Come stand with Standing Rock with us!

Coming Up At Cedar Commons

* Stories of Experiencing Disability In Today's World *
TUESDAY December 6th, 6-8pm

Join us for a panel discussion by, for, and about disabled people and our experiences. This will be an opportunity to hear first-person narratives of what it's like to live in today's world as a disabled individual. Panelists will include people with a range of experiences, abilities, and disabilities.

THURSDAY December 8th, 6:30-8:30pm.

Join us for a meal and conversation about the ways that our faith communities both perpetuate racism and hold power to bring about racial justice.

Speaker: Mel Reeves, longtime local activist and organizer and a person of deep faith.

Do you need to be a "person of faith" to come? Absolutely not. We welcome anyone with interest in conversation about how faith/spirituality shape our lives and intersect with the issues we care about.

This gathering is hosted by the Interfaith @ Cedar Commons organizer team and the Augsburg Interfaith Scholars.
