URGO Summer Research Applications Available

Are you looking for a paid summer research opportunity here on campus? URGO applications for 2017 summer research are now available on the URGO website at www.augsburg.edu/urgo. All fields of study welcome!

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $4,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $2,000 stipend. The program runs from May 15th – July 28th.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,000 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 1st, so start talking with your faculty before break to learn about what research is going on in your department!

Gen Ed Question of the Week: Augsburg Experience

Experiential education has long been a hallmark of an Augsburg education. As part of the general education requirements for their degree, all students complete an "Augsburg Experience" requirement through one of the following ways: internships, study abroad, student-faculty research, student teaching, special immersion trips, and/or other approved experiences. For more information, see http://www.augsburg.edu/academics/augsburg-experience/

As the Gen Ed Design Team considers how to strengthen our commitment to experiential education, while at the same time simplifying and improving access, we seek your input. Please email <genedrevision@augsburg.edu> OR submit an anonymous response through this link: https://docs.google.com/a/augsburg.edu/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfT1oIUcd3ZiGf8IWiiNegYobrndDAM90MhVBKIjflxSdB8_A/viewform

All faculty, staff, and students are encourage to share their perspectives.

What are the greatest benefits of the Augsburg Experience as it is now configured?
What are the obstacles to completing it?
Can you imagine ways to simplify and improve access?
Do you have expertise and ideas you'd like to share with the Design Team?
