Adventure Learning Speaker on Campus Thursday

Come hear Natalie Warren talking on "Rivers as Classrooms: Tales and Lessons from the Hudson Bay Expedition" this Thursday, Nov. 20th, from noon – 1:30 in OGC 100

Natalie Warren and Ann Raiho were the first two women to paddle the 2,000 miles from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay in 2011, following Eric Sevareid's route from Canoeing With the Cree. Natalie went on to start Wild River Academy, a nonprofit based in Minneapolis dedicated to engaging communities in watershed education through outdoor recreation. She recently organized a group of eleven young adults to paddle the entire Mississippi River under the name Paddle Forward to engage youth in issues surrounding their local watershed.

She and Ann were nominated for Canoe & Kayak's 2012 Expedition of the Year and were written about in Outside Magazine, Canoe&Kayak, and the Star Tribune. Here is their website and here is their Hudson Bay Bound Blog. Natalie is currently writing a book on their adventure.

The talk highlights social and environmental issues along the route and seeks to encourage people to pursue their passions, resulting in greater opportunities for themselves and their communities. Students from the Environmental and River Politics course at Augsburg will also have displays highlighting their research on the Mississippi River from the 10-day trip they took down the river this August.
