Faculty, Are You Feeling Stressed?

The end of the semester can also be stressful for faculty, but nobody sends us a care package. How do you navigate all the grading? How do you end the semester on a high-note? Come share your ideas, listen to those of your peers, and get caffeinated so you can do what needs to be done to support your students. Please join your colleagues from departments across the college at this CTL-sponsored coffee discussion.

Wednesday, December 3
10:15-11:15 a.m. (drop by or stay the whole hour)

Augsburg AAUP President Elise Marubbio has announced that our chapter has endorsed the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education. Some of you may be interested in signing up for the list serve: If so, you can contact Susan Meisenhelder at smeisenhelder@calfac.org .

To learn more about the Campaign and its seven principles, go to

http://futureofhighered.org/principles/

Here's a sample--Principle #3: "Quality higher education in the 21st Century will require a sufficient investment in excellent faculty who have the academic freedom, terms of employment, and institutional support needed to do state-of-the-art professional work."

The Campaign also asked Augsburg AAUP members whether we would "like to have a representative on the Steering Committee of CFHE" and noted that "There are no dues and we do most of our work by monthly conference call." If you are interested, contact Elise at marubbio@augsburg.edu .

SECOND,

Augsburg AAUP Chapter Secretary Nancy Fischer announces our Chapter blog, open to our whole community:

MBA Alumnus Founds Think Tank

Dr. Nikolay Megits, '08 Augsburg MBA, with a PhD in Economics from the Universitas Libera Ucrainensis in Munich, Germany, has founded The Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia (IEECA), an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) "think-tank." IEECA's mission is to promote high-quality multi-disciplinary academic research on the rapidly changing region of modern Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Its primary goal is to function as an interface between academia and the policy community, by providing a forum for peer-reviewed studies in International Affairs, Economics, Management, Finance and Marketing.

The IEECA publishes the Journal of Eastern European and Central Asia Research (JEECAR), a multidisciplinary double-blind peer-reviewed journal aimed at publishing high-quality, original, innovative research about current economic issues in the rapidly changing Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. Megits notes that JEECAR acts as an interface between academia and the policy community by providing a space for discussion that brings policy, academic, diplomatic, and business sectors together with peer-reviewed academic studies relating to regional history, politics, security, economics, society and culture.

Additionally, the IECCA organizes International Conferences in partnership with Webster University in St. Louis, MO. More information about IECCA and JEECAR may be found at www.ieeca.org
