Public Safety and Facilities Announcements
Anderson Hall 100 Floorhouse Renovation
From Dennis Stuckey, director of Facilities Management:
Contractor mobilization will begin on Monday November 3, 2014 for the renovation of the Anderson Hall 100 Floorhouse. Construction is estimated to take six to seven weeks. We anticipate the Center for Counseling and Health Promotions to relocate to its new space in mid-December.
This relocation project will allow us to demolish the vacated house on 21st Avenue this coming spring as we prepare the site for the new CSBR building. Please note that while this is minor construction, there will be some noise generated while the contractors are working. We will be working with the contractors to minimize any disruption. As always, if you have concerns about safety or disruption of services, please contact dispatch in the Department of Public Safety at 612-330-1717, and they will contact the appropriate individuals.

Stop by and join ALAS as we celebrate "El Dia De Los Muertos," a day specifically dedicated to honor the passing of our loved ones. Cultivate a better understanding of this holiday by getting your face painted and snacking on Mexican candy. Feel free to ask questions while you are there!

Critical Thinking: How Well Are We Doing? 11/4-5
It's been 3 years since the last CTL workshop on Critical Thinking. Since that time, we've gathered evidence on our students' performance that might surprise you (and change the way you teach.) National evidence also underscores the urgency of redoubling our efforts in this area. Critical Thinking is one of the General Education skills embedded across the curriculum. This workshop will review our students' performance on nationally calibrated tests and cover strategies for effectively teaching critical thinking.
Mary Lowe and Lori Brandt-Hale will be offering two sessions on Tuesday, November 4, and Wednesday, November 5, both from 3:40-5:00 in OCG 111. Katie Bishop will present a summary of assessment data during the first 15 minutes.

NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship
We are pleased to provide you with information concerning the 2014-15 NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship Program at Augsburg College. This scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.
We encourage you to apply for this scholarship if you:
* are a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, pre-engineering, or mathematics/science education;
* can demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership within your major area; and
* show an interest in contributing to NASA's mission.
This competitive program awards 6 scholarships for spring semester, 2015. Students from traditionally under-represented groups in science and mathematics fields are especially encouraged to apply.

The Commons is open from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Market Place is serving Carolina Kale, Mushrooms, Black Beans & Greens, Corn Dogs, and Baked Beans. Vege is serving Horseradish Potatoes, Brown Rice with Lime & Cilantro, Carrots with Sesame Dressing, and Green Beans with Toasted Pumpkin Seeds.
Starting on November 3 The Commons will be closing at 7:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. on weeknights.

2015 Annual Benefit Enrollment
The annual benefit enrollment period will be from November 10-November 21. Human Resources will be sending an email directly to your Augsburg email address with more details. However, in the meantime, please block off your calendar to attend one of the five benefit enrollment sessions:

Augsburg College and TIAA-CREF announce the final group transition workshop meeting. The workshop will help explain the changes being made to our retirement plan.

Health Commons Supply Drive
The Augsburg Central Health Commons is a community outreach program held at Central Lutheran Church in Downtown Minneapolis, which provides basic medical services and health education to people of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds free of charge. The mission of the Health Commons is to promote health and healing in marginalized populations. Donations are the primary way that the Health Commons is able to provide these services to its visitors.
The Health Commons will be holding a Supply Drive, sponsored by Tri-Beta, during the week of October 27-October 31, 2014. Below is a list of items requested for donation:
* men's white socks (new)
* feminine pads (not tampons)
* large size diapers (size 4, 5, 6, or pull-ups)
* travel size shampoo
* travel size conditioner
* travel size soap
* travel size toothpaste
* travel size lotion
* deodorant
* razors
* men's underwear - boxers
* baby wipes
Many of these items can be purchased for low cost at a local dollar store. Any contribution is going to be very appreciated! Drop off boxes will be in the Biology Department office (second floor science) and residence halls all week.

Augsburg College and TIAA-CREF has added additional individual counseling sessions for faculty and staff. These sessions are being held at no cost to you. At the individual meetings You can discuss your financial situation with an experienced TIAA-CREF Financial Consultant on a confidential basis. They are available to discuss how to pursue your financial goals, plan for retirement, and invest in financial products such as mutual funds, brokerage, life insurance and annuities.

All Saints Day Chapel Service: Mon., Nov. 3
We invite you to a special chapel on Monday, November 3, at 10:40 a.m. when the Augsburg Community celebrates All Saints Day. On this festival day we remember with thanksgiving those who have died this past year.
During the worship service, the names of those who have gone before us will be sung during the "Litany of the Saints." The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. All Saint's Day celebrates the people of God, living and dead, who make up the body of Christ. On this day, together with congregations throughout the world, we remember the faithful who have died this past year.
You may send the names of those people in your life who have died and who you would like to be named and remembered during chapel to Amy Hanson in the Campus Ministry Office at hansona2@augsburg.edu. Please also include the relationship of the person to you (only the name of the deceased will be sung). Information sheets will also be available during chapel. Please submit names by NOON TODAY, October 31.

With its potent mixture of love, comedy, lyricism, and stage magic, A Midsummer Night's Dream has continued to captivate audiences for over four centuries. Set in a mythical world of ancient Athens, moonlit woods, and fairy kingdoms, the play is a poignant and hilarious look at multifarious forms of human folly. Our production will imaginatively explore the play's rich and compelling themes (both overt and covert)--love, power, gender, sexuality, marriage, class, patriarchy--through a fresh, contemporary lens, as we mine the play's poetic, humorous, and magical power.

LGBTQIA Student Services intern Mechelle Poessnecker and Dr. Penny Jo Rosenthal, Mankato State, presented "Beyond the Binary: Creating Gender Inclusive Spaces on College Campuses."
Michael Grewe, LGCBTQIA Student Services Director, and Mechelle Poessnecker, Intern, presented on "Supporting Asexual Students."
Jennifer Simon, American Indian Student Services, Dulce Monterubbio, Latino@ Student Services, and Hli Vang, Pan-Asian Student Services, presented on "Promoting Student Success and Equity amidst the Changing Landscape of Higher Education: Augsburg College's Multicultural Student Services."
Ann Garvey, Vice President of Student Affairs, Patti Klein, Hamline, and Peggy Sarnicki, St. Cloud State University, presented on "Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act: Tracking, Understanding and Complying with Federal Legislation."
