Fadia Afashe was born and raised in Damascus, Syria and is an established artist in Syria who studied with Syrian painter Adnan Abed Al-Rahman and earned degrees in art and criminal law before coming to complete a fellowship at the University of Minnesota in June of 2011. A passionate human rights activist, she developed and wrote the script for the documentary "Suspended," which focused on how Arab rape laws do little to protect women. Since moving to the United States, Fadia has given more than 30 speeches about the revolution.
