"The Generation of 1914": Lindell 2nd Floor

Exactly 99 years ago -- on 22 April 1915 -- chemical warfare was set loose on the world when the German Army deployed 168 tons of chlorine gas at Langemark-Poelkapelle, north of Ypres, Belgium, in World War I. The combatants had already tested ethyl bromoacetate (tear gas), but chlorine gas was far more lethal...

Marking the centennial of 1914, students in the History capstone and keystone (HIS 480) have pursued extensive research on "The Generation of 1914." Our discoveries are shocking, puzzling, sobering, and instructive. In this exhibit, we share small pieces of our much larger projects.

On-Campus GRE Prep Course - Register Now

Augsburg offers an eight week GRE prep course each summer for students and alumni at a cost well below those found at private test centers. This course is taught by Augsburg faculty and staff and walks students through each section of the general test. Throughout the course students complete sample test questions and receive in-depth feedback and instruction. Registration is first come, first served, so sign up now at: www.augsburg.edu/urgo

Explore how your department can begin to or further integrate education abroad into the curriculum.

Scholarly Writing Retreat

Do you wish you had uninterrupted time to write/work on scholarship? If so, you will want to take advantage of the annual Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat. The retreat will take place at the Dunrovin Retreat Center outside Marine on St. Croix (www.dunrovin.org). The center will be open for our use from Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. through Tuesday, May 20 at 1 p.m. (after lunch).

The Center for Teaching and Learning will cover the cost of the retreat. There will be no charge for participants. To make a reservation, please email ctl@augsburg.edu.

Applying for Med, PA, PT, or Other Health Schools?

URGO will be hosting Application Bootcamp for students and alumni who are applying to professional schools in the health field this year (Medicine, Dentistry, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, etc.). The bootcamp includes three sessions:

May 8, 10-2 in Sverdrup 201
May 14, 10-2 in Sverdrup 201
May 19, 10-2 in Sverdrup 201

It will feature application instruction from Dr. Dale Pederson, personal statement guidance from Dr. Dal Liddle, and individualized advising from URGO. Students are strongly recommended to attend all three sessions to develop a high quality application, and are encouraged to sign up for as many sessions as possible. The work time and support is designed for students at all stages of the application process, those who haven't started yet and those who are well underway. Students who attend will receive priority feedback on applications and secondaries following bootcamp.

Your Input is Wanted: CLASS Director Search TODAY

This week, we will welcome two candidates for the CLASS Office Director position to campus for interviews. Each candidate has been asked to develop a 15-minute presentation discussing the key challenges and opportunities in disability services at a college. After the presentation, audience members will be invited to ask the candidate questions and provide feedback for the search committee. You can help make the search a success by attending the presentation sessions, asking questions, and providing your input.

Great Colleges: You Shared Your Voices

The survey officially closed on April 18 and I am pleased to report that ModernThink noted our participation as outstanding.

ModernThink will be analyzing the data over the next several months. Once the aggregate data has been received we will make sure it is made available to everyone to review. Watch for information to be available sometime in the fall.

TODAY: The Art and Science of Minneapolis Cuisine

Science 123 and the Campus Kitchen invite the Augsburg community to participate in our final homework assignment of the semester. Students in the course Science 123 have dined out in the city to see the food materials science they have learned about all semester put to practice. You can join them, support the local food scene, and then meet some of the chefs!

Tonight, (OGC 100, 7-8 p.m.) we will have a conversation with Landon Schoenefeld (Haute Dish), Erick Harcey (Victory 44), Karyn Tomlinson (Borough) about creativity, food, science, and the careers of professional chefs.

Please join the EP!C peer health educators for a fun interactive evening of games and information as we prepare to leave Augsburg for summer break or graduation! We will have an obstacle course done with the impaired vision goggles, bean bag toss, health questions and free condoms. We will also have ice cream sundaes!
