Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Christensen Center Dock Closure

The Christensen Center dock will be closed tomorrow through Thursday, April 15-17, for installation of a new door. Shipping & Receiving will handle alternative arrangements with all regular delivery companies (USPS, UPS, FedEx). If you are expecting large deliveries from other carriers, please work with your vendor to warn them of the dock closure.

If you are completing a summer internship that you would like to count for your Augsburg Experience, don't forget to register for a non-credit internship before starting your experience.

Who should attend?
- Students who have an internship lined up for the summer that is related to their major and/or career goals

Writing Retreat - Make Your Reservation

Faculty: do you wish you had uninterrupted time to write/work on scholarship? If so, you will want to take advantage of the annual Jessica Nathanson Scholarly Writing Retreat.

The retreat will take place at the Dunrovin Retreat Center outside Marine on St. Croix (www.dunrovin.org). The center will be open for our use from Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. through Tuesday, May 20 at 1 p.m. (after lunch).

The Center for Teaching and Learning will cover the cost of the retreat. There will be no charge for participants. To reserve one of the 15 spots, please email ctl@augsburg.edu.

Internal Job Posting: Campus Kitchen Project

The Campus Kitchen is looking to hire one internal candidate as the Operations and Education Coordinator for Summer 2014 (May-August). This position coordinates the day-to-day activities and education programs of the Campus Kitchen. For the full job description, visit Human Resources' Moodle page under "Internal Job Postings."

This position is a temporary position, 40 hours/week, May-August.

Staff Senate Seeks Nominees by April 17

Staff Senate seeks awesome Auggies.

Be engaged in the Augsburg community by serving on Staff Senate. If you'd like to become a senator or nominate a colleague, send your candidates to grewe@augsburg.edu by April 17. Online elections will take place April 24 through May 1,determining our new representatives.

All nominees will be verified before being placed on the election ballot. An email will be sent to all Augsburg staff with a link to the online election survey on April 24. Staff will have until May 1 to take the survey. The winners of the election will be notified by May 2.

You are invited to attend the Best of Augsburg Film Festival on Saturday, April 26 in Sateren Auditorium at 2 p.m. Selected works created by Augsburg students during the 2013-14 year will be screened. A panel of guest judges will be present and awards will be handed out.

TONIGHT: Civil War Lecture, Marshall Room, 7 p.m.

Please join students in HIS 331: The Civil War and Reconstruction as they welcome Augsburg alum and Regent Wayne B. Jorgenson '71 for a lecture in the Marshall Room tonight (Monday, April 14) at 7 p.m. Jorgensen, the author of Every Man Did His Duty: Pictures and Stories of the Men of the First Minnesota (2013), will present "The First Minnesota Regiment in the American Civil War." All members of the Augsburg community--and the general public--are welcome.

AugSTEM Scholarship Drop-In Hours Wednesday

The AugSTEM Scholarship application for 2014-2015 is now available at www.augsburg.edu/stem. Applications are due July 1. Come learn about more about the AugSTEM program and scholarships and find out if you are eligible!

April 16 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

If you cannot make it for the drop-in hours but plan to apply for the scholarship, please email stem@augsburg.edu to let us know of your intent.

The AugSTEM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation, AugSTEM Scholars can receive up to $7,000 per year in financial support. Scholars also become a part of a vital STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

The AugSTEM scholar award is designated for students who are within five semesters of graduating. Applicants must be full-time students in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics) with a 3.0 GPA within their major. This award is available for U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents who demonstrate financial need via FAFSA. Students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

Keeping Track of Auggies

Student Teams Place in Target Case Competition

This Saturday, April 12, four teams participated in the Target Case Competition. Target provided the students with a large data set to analyze and students were asked to present data-driven recommendations in a business context. Target sponsored this competition to increase awareness of their Business Intelligence & Analytics area, for which they seek employees with strong problem-solving and quantitative skills.

The first place team received a $700 prize was led by Hector Camarena, with team members Fikre Beyene, Angel Hernandez, Juan Tigre and Andris Bibelnieks. The second place team received $300 and was led by Luis Hernandez with team members Angela Hernandez, Vision Bagonza, and Kirubel Frew.

Math Students Attend Pi Mu Epsilon Conference

Augsburg mathematics students Alexander Greig, Will Keeter, Jessica Linck, Nathan Peterson, Nazih Safi, and Stephen Stone attended the 35th Annual Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society Conference, April 11-12 at St. John's University, Collegeville, MN.

Thanks to the support of URGO, students experienced a professional conference environment and informative presentations on placement of power plants, Google search engines, facial recognition techniques and optimal strategies of winning antiSet and Antonim.
