Cap and Gown Information - Please Read

Please order your cap and gown by February 27! The website will close at midnight for ordering. All late order will have to be placed at the bookstore and will have a $10 late charge.

Prices for cap and gowns are located on website. You will pay for your order when you pick up at the bookstore on or after April 11.

Rochester students: We will deliver pre-ordered gowns only. The date will be announced soon.

Scholarship Opportunity for Students of Color

We are two weeks away from The LAGRANT Foundation's (TLF) scholarship deadline of February 28! This year, TLF will award $150,000 in scholarships to 40 ethnic minority undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in advertising, marketing or public relations. Since the foundation's annual Scholarship & Donor Recognition Reception will be held in Minneapolis this May, our goal is to have 10 of the 40 students from colleges in the Twin Cities.

Campus Cupboard Food Shelf Expanding Hours

We're excited to announce that the Campus Cupboard Food Shelf is expanding their open hours. Now any student can visit to choose up to five grocery items each day during the following times:

Tuesdays 12:00-4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays 1:30-4:00 p.m.
Fridays 2:30-5:00 p.m.

Donation bins can still be found in the Urn/Mort and Anderson Lobbies, Campus Ministries, the Welcome Desk, and Einsteins. We are printing new posters and business/info cards with the updated information. If you would like a stack of cards to hand out to students in need, please let me know the number you would like and I'll get them to you next week.

A big thanks to all our students who make this possible: Vincent Henry, Atlese Robbinson, Whitney Blountsmith, Nazih Safi, Hothan Mohamed, Cheemoua Vang, Hannah Thiry, Matthew Johnson, and Emily Campbell.

SC 2014-15 Applications Now Available

Scholastic Connections is a scholarship and mentorship program for undergraduate students of color (American Indian, Hispanic/Latino, Pan-Afrikan, and Pan Asian) at Augsburg College. Students who are successful in their application process and are selected to participate, receive a $5000 scholarship and are paired with a successful alum of color that serves as mentor for the Scholar.

Five "new" Scholars will be selected for the program for 2014-15.

Students who are Promise Scholars, full tuition President Scholars or International President Scholars are NOT eligible for SC.

Eligibility Criteria:
Current Augsburg student or advanced-standing transfer student
Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
Demonstrated leadership ability or potential
Demonstrated community involvement on or off campus
GPA of 2.5 or higher

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2014

Suddenly Sami is a personal film about identity. When the director discovers that her mother has been hiding her Indigenous Sami background from her, Ellen sets out to Northern Norway to discover why. Ellen's story explores the impact of relocation and diaspora on the Indigenous peoples of Norway and how this history has impacted Sami identity.

Dr. Lawson is an assistant professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities where she teaches American Indian and Indigenous film.

About the Director:
Ellen-Astri Lundby (b. 1959), a freelance reporter and filmmaker, has worked in film and television since 1989 creating humorous short fiction and documentary films.

Governance Task Force Public Forum on Feb. 20

Please join members of the Governance Task Force on Thursday, Feb. 20th from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Marshall Room to share your views and experiences with decision-making and governance at the College. These meetings are an opportunity for all members of the campus community to be involved in constructing the best decision-making climate we can. Forums will involve conversations that ask participants to draw on recent experiences with decision-making at the College to suggest improvements in shared governance.

MFA Mentor and literary journalist Jack El-Hai will read from his work on Thursday, February 20 , and 6:30 p.m. in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center.

This is a Graduate Information Session and it's open to the public.

Augsburg's Barnes and Noble Bookstore will have books available for purchase and Jack will sign books after the reading.
