Fulbright Summer Institutes Applications Available

The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers special Summer Institutes for U.S. citizens to go to the U.K. These summer programs provide the opportunity for U.S. undergraduates (over age 18), with at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete, to come to the U.K. for a three, four, five, or six week academic and cultural summer program.

The program looks for students who display leadership qualities and initiative, academic ability, character, adaptability and ambassadorial qualities and requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Please email urgo@augsburg.edu or stop by the URGO office by this week if you would like to apply. Applications for the Summer Institutes are due February 27 or March 6 based on program.

New Adult Undergrad Website; Updated Template for augsburg.edu

New Adult Undergraduate Website:

The website for the redesigned adult undergraduate program is now live on the augsburg.edu website. To view it, go to the Admissions tab in the main menu and click the "Minneapolis" link under the "Adult Undergraduate" heading.

This new site is targeted to future prospective adult undergraduate students and will serve as the landing page for the promotional campaign we will run this spring and summer.

To support continuing Weekend and Evening College students, we will use the existing http://inside.augsburg.edu/weekend site, which will be updated over time with information relative to the transition and completion process for those students.

New Template for augsburg.edu:

You may notice that the new adult undergraduate site looks a bit different from the rest of the augsburg.edu site. This is because it has been built in an updated template that allows us to introduce several new features (including additional content manager roles, in-page calendaring, easy-to-create call-out functions, and an optional blog feature for each site). Like the current template, the new template is mobile- and tablet-friendly.

We will be transitioning all sites currently on www.augsburg.edu to the new template throughout the remainder of the spring term and potentially into the summer. If you are a content manager, Joe Mann will contact you before your site is transferred in order to coordinate the transfer with you. The transfer will not change the web addresses for your site, so any links to your current site will automatically go to the site in the new template after it is transferred.

Tutors and Mentors Needed - Table Today

Stop by and visit with staff from ACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students) an after-school tutoring/mentoring program on Monday, Feb .10 from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Christensen Center.

ACES is a strong after-school tutor/mentor program that helps urban students in grades 4-8 in both Minneapolis Public Schools and St. Paul Public Schools overcome the academic achievement and opportunity gaps. Students who consistently attend ACES show academic growth, improved behavior and school attendance, and increased identity with their community. ACES is recognized as a model after-school program for MPS and SPPS.

Cap and Gown Information - Please Read

Please order your cap and gown by February 27! The website will close at midnight for ordering. All late order will have to be placed at the bookstore and will have a $10 late charge.

Prices for cap and gowns are located on website. You will pay for your order when you pick up at the bookstore on or after April 11.

Rochester students: We will deliver pre-ordered gowns only. The date will be announced soon.

SC 2014-15 Applications Now Available

Applications are now being accepted for Scholastic Connections for 2014-15. Successful applicants for 5 available positions will receive a $5,000 scholarship and be paired with an alum of color who will serve as the student's mentor.

Students who are Promise Scholars, full tuition President Scholars or International Scholars are NOT eligible for SC.

Applications and letters of recommendation are due March 1.

Attention Faculty and Staff: If you know of a student of color who could benefit from a $5,000 scholarship and work with a mentor, please nominate the student for Scholastic Connections. Nomination forms and information about the program are available at the SC web page. Nominations due March 1.

Shared Governance Town Hall Meetings This Week

The Shared Governance Task Force formed by the Board of Regents will be holding two more meetings on Tues., Feb. 11 from 3:40-5 p.m. in the Marshall Room and Fri., Feb. 14 from 9:20-10:30 a.m. in OGC 100. These are an opportunity for all members of the campus community to reflect on recent experiences with decision-making at the College and engage in discussion of ways to improve governance at the college.

Additional meetings will be scheduled in the coming weeks, and anyone wanting to pass along their thoughts or suggestions are encouraged to contact task force members Diane Pike, Joe Underhill, Matt Entenza, Erik Jolly, Kathy Swanson, Katie Berggren, and Jane Ann Nelson.

Congratulations Augsburg Concert Band

For the first time in just under 50 years, the Augsburg College Concert Band has been selected to perform at the Minnesota Music Educator's Midwinter Clinic. We are excited to feature a partnership with the Fridley High School Band as we perform at this event. We were selected through a blind audition process, competing with high schools, colleges, and universities in the upper Midwest.

Our performance will be the opening concert for the MMEA Midwinter clinic at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Ballroom A. The performance is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!

Research Poster-Making Session - Thursday, Feb. 13

If you plan to participate in Zyzzogeton this year or will be presenting at another conference, please join Tina Tavera of McNair and Kirsten O'Brien of URGO for a poster-making info session this Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in Sverdrup 201. We will discuss content, layout, and design. You will also have the opportunity to work on your poster and receive feedback. Posters are due March 14, so now is the best time to start!
