MN Urban Debate League Give to the Max Day

The Mission of the Minnesota Urban Debate League (MNUDL) is to empower students to become engaged learners, critical thinkers, and active citizens who are effective advocates for themselves and their communities. MNUDL accomplishes that mission by working with area middle and high schools to implement and maintain academic and competitive debate programs.

Since it began in 2003, and became a program at Augsburg College in 2009, the program has grown from serving 35 students at 4 schools to serving over 500 students at 32 schools in 2013. 100% of our students have graduated from high school on time, and 99% have been accepted to and have started college! This is why your financial support of the MNUDL is so important. It has a direct impact on how many more students we can reach with our mission of closing the achievement gap here in Minnesota.

The MNUDL hopes to bring debate to even more schools and more students – please help us open the door for more students to gain access to this proven, academically rigorous activity – make a gift ON November 14, 2013! Check out our site now: http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Mnurbandebate

"Debate gave me the foundation to advocate for myself and others, be a critical thinker, and be an open minded person... I thank the Urban Debate League for all that it has done. I thank them for the opportunities I have had, and the friends and family I still enjoy. I applaud them for striving for equality and success and believe that they will make a generation for change. Without them, I would not be the leader I am today. " – Semaj McDonnell, MN Urban Debate League Alum, First-year student at Augsburg College

Roz Nordaune '77 Creates CSBR Challenge

Roselyn "Roz" Nordaune '77 believes in the power of girls and women. This belief led her to deepen her involvement and investment in Augsburg and to direct her giving to inspire others to join her. Roz has funded a $25,000 challenge and is asking members of Augsburg's Women Engaged to join her as a donor to the Center for Science, Business, and Religion. Read more at http://blogs.augsburg.edu/riddle/?p=555

A founding partner of Nordaune & Friesen, PLLC, in Wayzata, Minn., Nordaune came to Augsburg College with the dream of being an attorney one day. She then went to the University of Minnesota for her JD degree. She acknowledges the superior preparation she received during her student days at Augsburg, saying: "I don't think I could have gotten a better education anywhere." She has been recognized by her peers as a Super Lawyer since 2003, placing her among the top five percent of Minnesota lawyers. She was named one of the Top 100 Women Minnesota Super Lawyers in 2005 and 2006.

Just five years after graduating, she became president of the Alumni Board and joined the Board of Regents. She served as a regent for 12 years and made lifelong friends through volunteering at the college. She and Jay Phinney created the Augsburg College Public Affairs Forum, which was active for six years, and brought to campus William Buckley, Jr., Shirley Chisholm, and other public figures.
