Convocation Daily Schedule Changes
On Friday, September 27, the Homecoming Convocation will affect the daily class schedule.
The revised schedule will be:
1st Period 8:00-8:50 a.m.
2nd Period 9:00-9:50 a.m.
Convocation 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Remaining classes follow regular schedule
On Tuesday, October 1, the Bernhard M. Christensen Symposium will affect the daily class schedule.
The revised schedule will be:
1st Period 7:50-9:15 a.m.
2nd Period 9:25-10:50 a.m.
Convocation 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
3rd Period 12:10-1:40 p.m.
Remaining classes follow regular schedule

Save the Date: Faculty-led Programs Abroad 14-15
Calling all Augsburg faculty interested in leading a study abroad program next academic year -- Our office is preparing a new (shorter!) proposal form, which will be announced in the next few weeks. In addition, our renowned Center for Global Education has launched some new locations in Europe, where they can provide logistical and academic support for your program!

Free Lockers Available for Commuter Students
Campus Activities and Orientation provides free lockers for students (Day, WEC, and Graduate) who commute to campus during the academic year. Lockers are located on the Ground and 2nd Levels of Science Building.
These lockers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To request your locker for the academic year, please print out, complete, and sign the form below and turn it into the Christensen Center Welcome Desk OR Michael Grewe in Christensen Center Room 1D (located on the ground floor in the "Auggie's Nest").

Student Phoners Needed In Admissions
The Admissions Office is looking for current students to work part-time evening hours contacting prospective Auggies! We are seeking enthusiastic callers who will reach out to incoming students and families to talk about applying to the college, visiting campus, and enrollment events. This is a great chance to use your communication skills as well as bring attention to many of the great opportunities Augsburg has to offer.
Interested applicants should apply online through the Augsburg HR employment website. Hours for this position are Monday through Thursday evenings from 5-9 PM. Shifts are flexible, but you must be available at least 4-6 hours during the calling week. Applications must be submitted by Friday, September 27th and interviews will be scheduled shortly after.

State of the College Transcript Available Online
A transcript of the 2013 State of the College address is now available on the State of the College 2013 page, in the College Reports section of Inside Augsburg. Also available on that page are an audio replay of the event, a copy of the slides used during the presentation, and a copy of the 2019 Vision document referenced during the event.
SC Scholars 2013-14
There are 16 student scholars participating in Scholastic Connections this academic year. At our Kick-Off event on 9/13/13 I asked the students to introduce themselves to the group, giving them specific questions to address. Here's what one of the new scholars had to say:
Bee Vang
My name is Bee. Not the letter before the C,
but it's spelled B with double E's.
I was born in a camp for refugees.
To how I got here is a long story
so I'll focus on the recently, and
what's in store for me.
You see, one incident during
my senior year of high school. I
had a small meeting with my teacher.
As I walked into the office
and sat in front of her desk
she said: "Be realistic. You can't
get anywhere with these grades!"
...and as the great Barney Stinsin
would say: "Challenge Accepted!"
And here I am. In my 3rd year
majoring in communication studies.
I'm not a leader for any student
groups currently.
But I am running for a position on the Student Body, so
it'd be nice if you'd vote for me.
Three years ago, I could
care less about school.
Truthfully, I hated it.
I'm only here because
everyone was promoting higher
education as the only solution
after high school graduation.
Back then, I was playin games
24/7,
and had no realistic vision.
I was ready to comfortably
live in my dad's basement as
long as there were games and a
television.
BUT, luckily, a part of
me enjoyed a challenge!
This year I look forward
to knowing all of you a little
better. I believe each and
every one of you mentors and
mentees have something to teach me.
As we progress, I'd like to
stress that if you're ever facing
any challenges along the way:
FACE IT! Head on because
we are made up of a class
that can say: "WE'VE MADE IT!"
Spanish Conversation Meets This Thursday
Looking for a chance to improve your Spanish conversation skills? Then we've got just the thing for you - Spanish Conversation group! Please join us as we gather to chat in Spanish, laugh and have a bit of fun. From beginning to advanced, all levels are welcome! This Thursday we will meet from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Commons cafeteria - look for our sign at one of the tables. Next week we'll be back in the Riverside Rm. Join us for 10 minutes or for the whole session, whatever works for you. Feel free to bring your lunch.

The following is taken from Tippet's introduction to her book, Einstein's God. "The science-religion "debate" is unwinnable, and has led us astray. To insist that science and religion speak the same language, or draw the same conclusions, is to miss the point of both of these pursuits of cohesive knowledge and underlying truth. To create a competition between them, in terms of relevance or rightness, is self-defeating. Both science and religion are set to animate this century with new vigor. This will happen whether their practitioners are in dialogue or not. But the dialogue that is possible - and that has developed organically, below the journalistic and political radar- is mutually illuminating and lush with promise."
Fall Vocation Lunch for Faculty and Staff

Come learn about the basics of the Social Construction of race, and how to openly discuss it with your friends, family, and others.
Students - Get Your Flu Shot
CCHP welcomes the Minnesota Visiting Nurse Association to Augsburg on Monday 9/30/13 from 12 noon - 3:00 p.m. for its annual flu shot clinic. The clinic is open to all students and any faculty and staff who did not have the opportunity to get a flu shot from the Homeland Health Clinics are also welcome to get their flu shot from MVNA. The walk-in clinic will be in OGC 100.
Most insurances are accepted so please bring your insurance card and a photo ID. Cash or checks are also accepted for the flu shot which costs $29
No appointments are necessary as it is a walk-in clinic. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Dianne in the CCHP office at 612-330-1707.

Theater Auditions - Antigonick - Next Week
Main Stage Theater Auditions - Antigonick
Monday, September 30th, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. OR
Tuesday, October 1st, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Call-back auditions will be held Thursday, October 3rd from 7 - 10 p.m. Please plan on attending the whole session.
The Augsburg Theater Arts Department will hold auditions for its main stage production, Antigonick by Sophokles, Anne Carson's translation/adaptation of Sophocles' Antigone, directed by Martha Johnson.
Auditions will be held in the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater, in Foss Center, Monday, September 30 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 1st from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. An audition sign-up sheet will be posted on the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater door in the Atrium of the Foss Center.
All Augsburg students are welcome to audition! Copies of Antigonick have been placed on reserve in the library, and audition monologues are available at the Theater department desk in Foss Center. Please choose and carefully prepare 3 monologues from those provided. It is recommended that you read the entire play in order to have a sense of the tone of the piece and the nature of the characters.
- Please arrive at the audition site at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Those who arrive after their scheduled time may not be allowed to audition.
- Please wear comfortable, business-casual attire to auditions. (No jeans, flip-flops, T-shirts, sweatpants, crop tops, halter tops, high heels, etc.)
- Please bring to auditions a complete list of all conflicts you may have with the rehearsal and performance schedule including work, classes, social commitments (such as weddings, anniversaries, etc.) and ensemble performances. Actors should declare all known conflicts at the time of the general audition. Rehearsals for this production run into the Spring semester, so please bring/be aware of your schedule for BOTH semesters when coming to auditions. Additionally, rehearsals will be held January 6th - 11th, 2014, a week before Spring classes begin. Attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory.
Rehearsals will begin November 11th, 2013 and performance dates are January 31st - February 9th.
Description of Antigonick:
In her highly innovative translations of ancient plays, acclaimed poet Anne Carson "combines contemporary language with the traditional structures and rhetoric of Greek tragedy, opening up [ancient tales] . . .to a modern audience. . ." In Antigonick, Carson emphasizes the importance of time-and timing-in tragedy, by introducing a silent character, Nick, who is always on stage measuring things while the events of the play unfold. Antigone is "here given an entirely fresh language and presentation."
