Cedar Riverside Safety Summit

Join neighborhood business owners, residents, police and security teams, and city council members in discussing neighborhood crime trends, safety tips, and other concerns.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend.

It's Time - Visit the Writing Lab

Now that the new term is well underway, it's time to visit the Augsburg College Writing Lab, street level of Lindell Library, left of the circulation desk. Here are the hours:

Monday: 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.; 3 - 5:30 p.m.; 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3 - 5:30 p.m.; 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursday: 12 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.; 3 - 5:30 p.m.; 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30 - 7 p.m.
Sunday: 5 - 8 p.m.

Faculty – If you would like a tutor to visit your class to present information on the WL, please contact K. Swanson, ext. 1010.

Batalden Convocation

The Batalden Convocation in Applied Ethics will take place on Wednesday, February 20th in the Hoversten Chapel. The address is entitled, "I want to, I can": Development Programs Step by Step Using the Human Capabilities Approach" by Susan Pick, Ph.D., National University of Mexico and Mexican Institute for Research on Family and Population (IMIFAP-I want to, I can)

Susan Pick will discuss the "Yo quiero, yo puedo" (I want to, I can) development programs that have, through their health promotion and poverty reduction work, reached over 19 million people in 14 countries. These programs have enabled society's poor and vulnerable to take charge of their lives through helping them develop their potential. Included will be testimonies that point to how people have improved the quality of their lives by specific behavior changes, becoming agents of change of their own lives and their communities.

Nabo is offering a meal replacement special, one meal plan meal per week can be used to purchase the special of the day at Nabo from 1:30 p.m. to close.

Nominations Open for 2012 Outstanding Staff Awards

Staff Senate is seeking nominations for the 2012 Augsburg College Outstanding Staff Awards. This award is intended to recognize exceptional Augsburg staff members who exemplify the mission statement of the college through their actions.

To be considered for this award, the nominee must have a complete nomination packet that includes:

* At least 2 letters of recommendation

Event Announcements

Wednesday - Medical Scribe Information Session

This Wednesday, URGO will be hosting an information session on medical scribing with an emergency department scribing agency from here in the Twin Cities. A scribe is a medical documentation specialist who works with an emergency department physician to produce medical notes recording what occurs during a patient's visit. The scribe is directly involved in patient interviews and physical exams and continues as an integral part of the treatment team throughout the patient's stay in the emergency department. Many students applying for medical school or other health-related fields have found scribing to be a great learning experience.

LGBTQIA Ally Trainings are being offered this semester for all students, staff, and faculty:

Ally Trainings are offered for all faculty, staff, and students at Augsburg College to gain knowledge, skills, and resources around being intentionally supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) communities. Participants will learn about LGBTQIA history and culture, confront myths and stereotypes, discuss heterosexual and gender-conforming privilege, discuss potential scenarios, ask questions in a safe environment, and discuss next steps on how to be an effective ally to LGBTQIA individuals at Augsburg.

Neighborhood Safety Summit

A Cedar-Riverside Safety Summit will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the Christensen Center (Marshall Room). Learn about safety resources in the neighborhood and hear from representatives of community organizations and public safety agencies working to maintain a safe and vibrant Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. Women's Center and Cafe Latte - Thursday

Please come to the open house in the Anne Pedersen Women's Resource Center in Sverdrup #207A this Thursday, January 31, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Cafe Latte cakes (generously donated by Dr. Koryne Horbal), coffee, and tea will be served. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to come and meet Dr. Adriane Brown (new director of the center and Director of Women's Studies at Augsburg) learn about the center, and offer suggestions for programs and services.

College Curling Bonspiel in Blaine

A college curling bonspiel, hosted by the CSB/SJU Curling Club, will be held February 8-10 at the new Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, MN.

There are three games guaranteed, and meals will be provided.
Cost is $100 per team and food is included.

The bonspiel is open to all current college students, and no previous curling experience is needed.
