By now, we are all aware of the terrible events that took place at Virginia Tech on Monday. In light of this tragedy, I would like to share a few thoughts regarding Augsburg's response to such a tragedy. While the college has an emergency plan, it focuses on the continued operation of the institution following such an incident. The tactical response required to resolve an active shooter would come from local law enforcement, not the college's department of public safety. I am meeting today with the Minneapolis Police to discuss our coordination during such an event. As a department, we are reviewing our policies for a bomb threat and person with a weapon. Once updated, we will conduct additional training with our officers and dispatchers.
