Message: The Nobel Peace Prize Forum (March 9 & 10) will address one of the most important issues in the world today, nuclear energy and nuclear weapons. The Forum will honor the work of Nobel Peace Laureate, Mohamed ElBaradei and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), recipients of the 2005 Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize. Be informed and be involved in this important issue.
Augsburg College is a co-sponsor of the Forum. Bus transportation is provided for pre-registered students, faculty and staff. Visiting professor Zhang Jie (John), Professor of English and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Anqing Teachers College will be offering sessions for students, faculty, and staff (non-Augsburg guests are also welcome).

Message: Center for Teaching and Learning Faculty Summer Research Guidelines 2007

Description: This grant provides support of faculty scholarly activity during the summer months. Scholarship is broadly defined to include disciplinary scholarship, the scholarship of application, interdisciplinary scholarship, and the scholarship of teaching. Examples of previous successful proposals are on file in the Center for Teaching and Learning.

"Scholarship of Teaching" typically goes beyond course development and/or revision and has as its audience other faculty and professionals in the field.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Proposals should show evidence of thorough preparation and meet the following criteria:
• Clear statement of realistic goals and objectives
• Appropriate and detailed project method/plan for achieving the goals and objectives
• Explanation of advance preparation and planning
• Clear description of the project's assessment
• Detailed timeline and budget


FUNDING: Up to $2000 is awarded per grant and 2-3 awards are typically made per year.
Source: Grangaard Faculty Development Fund.
Funding decisions are made by the Faculty Development Committee. All funds must be requested by the end of the fiscal year in which the grant is awarded.

ELIGIBILITY: These grants are for Faculty. Priority is given to full time tenure track faculty. Priority is also given to faculty whohave not received this grant in the previous three year period.

APPLICATION: Please use the Research Application on-line form that is available at the CTL website www.augsburg.edu/ctl and attach a curriculum vita.

Application Date: March 15 for the summer 2007.

Requirements of the grant include completion of the following:
• Professional Development evaluation form and assessment as described in the project application
• Sharing the results with the Augsburg Community; for example, presentation of a community discussion, Faculty Scholarship Roundtables, or another venue approved by the FacDev Committee.

Subject: AugCore Assessment Pilot training

Message: All faculty are invited to attend the AugCore Assessment Pilot project training workshop. This pilot will assess writing and critical thinking at the institutional level. Carol Rutz from Carleton College will train Augsburg faculty on how to do this assessment. The training will take place on March 9th from 2:30-6:00 p.m. in the Marshall Room. The actual assessment pilot will take place in May. Those who participate in the training will be asked to participate in the May pilot. Participation is a great faculty development opportunity. What are the characteristics of an assignment that lead to a well-written paper? Come to the training and find out! Participants will receive a 50 dollar gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. Message: In response to requests from student government and thanks to the financial support of the President's Office, regular library hours have been extended. Beginning on March 1, Lindell Library will remain open until midnight Sundays through Thursdays and until 7 p.m. on Saturdays. We’ll close at 10 p.m. on Fridays.

Longer hours are a pilot project this spring. So come get cozy, get comfortable, get serious about your studies at Lindell Library.

Message: This weekend, March 2, 3, and 4, Dr. Martin Marty, professor emeritus, University of Chicago Divinity School, will lead discussions about the history and future of our changing religious landscape: globally, nationally, and locally.

The program begins Friday night, 7:30 - 9 p.m., at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Ave, in Saint Paul, and continues Saturday from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. On Sunday, Dr. Marty will preach at the 9 and 11 a.m. services and present an Enrichment Program at 10 a.m.

Topics include "Diversity Issues in the Fields of Education, Law, Medicine and the Arts" and "Diversity Issues in Our Local Religious Communities".
