Sometimes, as supervisors, we tend to think of performance management as something we do when an employee is not performing well. While feedback is important then, its also important when things are going well. Giving feedback reinforces behavior that we want to see continued and helps the employee know how they are doing relative to the expectations we create. Receiving on-going feedback is how employees come to understand how they contribute to the organization and how they can continuously increase the value of that contribution.
