The Haglund and Messerer Fitness Centers, along with the gym and the rest of the Athletic Facilities, will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25 and will remain closed until noon on Sunday, November 29 when regular hours resume. All Athletic Facilities will be closed November 26, 27 and 28.

Summer Research at Mayo in Bioethics - All Majors

OPEN TO ALL MAJORS!

The Mayo Clinic seeks applicants for its 2016 summer undergraduate research program in biomedical ethics. This program is highly competitive and 4-6 students will be selected. Each student will be placed with a faculty mentor for approximately 10 weeks. Students will participate in educational sessions on bioethics research and lunch meetings with faculty.

Off-Campus Research Information Session:

Each summer, universities, national labs, and other research institutions throughout the country offer paid research opportunities for undergraduates. In past years, Augsburg students have been accepted to programs at locations such as Harvard, Johns Hopkins, The University of Minnesota, The University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, and The Mayo Clinic, among many others.

Check out URGO's website for a list of off-campus research opportunities and then come to the information session December 3rd to hear about the experiences of students who have completed off-campus research & get tips on your own applications!

Get Paid For Your Internship

Wouldn't it be GREAT if you could get paid to do an internship?

You may be able to do just that because of a grant recently awarded to Augsburg College. Augsburg has recently been awarded a Great Lakes Career Ready Grant. The Career Ready Internship grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation provides funds to colleges and universities so that they can partner with businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships, and convert existing unpaid internships into paid opportunities. This program serves juniors and seniors who receive financial aid, improving their odds of graduating and preparing them to enter the workforce with real-world experience in their fields of study.

To be eligible:

* Students must be in good academic standing (2.5+ GPA)
* Students must be a college junior or senior (60 credits completed) at the time of the internship
* Students must be eligible for financial aid (work study)
* The internship must be related to your major or career aspirations
* Internships will take place Spring 2016, Summer 2016 or Fall 2016

Act now! Priority consideration is given to students who complete the short Augsburg application, so we recommend you complete it soon.

Diversity and Inclusion Comm. Special Presentation

This special presentation, hosted by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, is an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to gather and hear about the prestigious INSIGHT Into Diversity - Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award, of which Augsburg College is a 2015 Recipient. Ann Garvey, Vice President of Student Affairs and award nomination drafter, will provide a brief history and description of the award, information about the award criteria and evaluation, and thoughts about the implications of the award. This gathering will also serve as an opportunity to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment and enjoy some refreshments.

NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship

Students can now apply for the 2015-16 NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship Program at Augsburg College. This scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

This competitive program awards 6 scholarships for spring semester, 2016, in the following areas:

Emerging Scholarship (Sophomore-Junior). Four scholarships of $1000 to encourage students whose course of study shows progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Enhanced Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior). Two scholarships of $2000 to support students who have shown considerable progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Strong candidates for the grant will be students who...
-are a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, pre-engineering, or mathematics/science education;
-can demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership within their major area; and
-show an interest in contributing to NASA's mission.

Please note that students from traditionally underrepresented groups in science and mathematics fields are especially encouraged to apply. No applicant shall be denied consideration based on race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex or disability.

Deadline for application: Friday, December 4, 2015.

Quanbeck Presents Paper at National Meeting

Phil Quanbeck II of the Religion Department presented a paper at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature in Atlanta,GA on Sunday Nov. 22.
The paper titled "The Closest Thing to a Bible: "The Fault in Our Stars" as Biblical Interpretation without a Bible" was part of the Bible and Popular Culture Section at SBL.
