22nd Ave South Closure Friday and Saturday
Starting at 6:00am on Friday, October 9th until 10:00pm on Saturday, October 10th, there will be no parking along the northbound and southbound lanes of 22nd Avenue South between Butler Place and 7th Street South. The City of Minneapolis will be posting "No Parking" signs, along with hooding the meters along that route - please be cognizant of signage and plan accordingly.

Lot K Closure Friday and Saturday
Lot K will be closed starting at 5:00am on Friday, October 9th until 10:00pm on Saturday, October 10th for Homecoming.
Please make sure to move your vehicle out of Lot K before the closure or you may be subject to ticket/tow. Please plan accordingly. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hear from Keme Hawkins, PhD on Friday, Oct. 9
Keme Hawkins '04 was an English major and McNair scholar while at Augsburg who then went on to receive her MA in Afro-American Studies from UW-Madison and her PhD in English from Emory University. She also holds a certification in screenwriting. Keme is the 2015 First Decade award winner, a prize which recognizes an alum for outstanding work done in the first ten years after graduation.
Join us on Friday, October 9 at 2pm in Lindell 301 to hear from Keme about her educational and artistic journey.

New Book from Christopher McMaster
Christopher McMaster, assistant professor in the Department of Education has written the newly published book, Educating All: Developing Inclusive School Cultures from Within. This important book, part of the Inclusion and Teacher Education series published by Peter lang, contributes significantly to the conversation about inclusion as a critical component of school culture.
"Go To" Metro Transit Card Promotion a Success
Thanks to the Central Corridor Partnership, Metro Transit and Augsburg College, 146 freshmen students activated their Go To Cards, and added $10. By doing so, these students will receive $45 on their card from Metro Transit, as of Oct. 9.
Thanks to Augsburg students who worked as interns on this project.

Learn About the West Bank-TODAY
West Bank Crash Course is an un-conference (of sorts) highlighting all things West Bank.
Join us for an introductory crash course into Minneapolis' coolest neighborhood! We'll have workshops and events throughout the week (Monday-Saturday) including a fashion show, craft beer tasting, sambusa-making session, neighborhood tours and more. It's a great way to get to know everything the neighborhood has to offer, and there's something for everyone!

Einstein's will be closing early Thursday Oct 8th at 2:00pm and Friday Oct 9th at 1:00pm.
The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Cilantro Lime Chicken with a Cilantro pilaf, Herb Roasted Yellow Squash and Zucchini. Vege is serving a Barley Mushroom Risotto with Pan-fried Eggplant, Fresh Garlic Green beans, and Fresh Braised Kale.
Gideon International Representatives
Gideons International representatives, including Augsburg alums, will be at the Minneapolis campus during the week of October 5 to distribute Bibles to campus community members who want one.
Stephan Eirik Clark is Named New MFA Director
Stephan Eirik Clark has been named the director of the Low-Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing at Augsburg College. A mentor in the program since its inception in 2013, Clark is the author of the short story collection Vladimir's Mustache, a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award, and Sweetness #9, the highly-acclaimed 2014 novel that was featured on The Colbert Report, NPR's Fresh Air, and in the pages of the New York Times, USA Today, and Oprah magazine, among other places. The novel has since been optioned for the screen by Olympus Pictures.
Clark's short stories and essays have appeared in numerous journals, including The Atlantic, Witness, Cincinnati Review, Salt Hill, and LA Weekly. His creative nonfiction has twice been recognized as notable in the anthology Best American Essays. A former Fulbright Fellow to Ukraine, Clark earned his Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California, where he also spent time as an undergraduate, earning honors from the university's prestigious film school.
Clark succeeds Cass Dalglish, the lead designer and first director of the program, who now serves as a mentor in fiction and teaches in the undergraduate creative writing program at Augsburg.
Lead a Short-Term Study Abroad Program 2016-17
Faculty interested in leading a short-term study abroad program in 2016-2017 must submit a proposal by December 19, 2015. More information is available at www.augsburg.edu/global - look under Resources for faculty and staff. At this URL, faculty can review the application itself, along with an informational packet that addresses common questions related to location, cost, marketing, and roles/responsibilities.
Faculty are also welcome to submit for 2017-2018! While firm decisions regarding 2017-2018 proposals will not be made during this cycle; they will be reviewed and, when possible, given preference for acceptance during the next cycle.
NOTE: Graduate programs are now subject to a proposal review process as well. Read more at the above URL.

Planting Seeds for an Urban Arboretum-October 14
Are you curious how the Hagfors Center for Science Business and Religion will impact campus green space? Do you have questions or ideas for how Augsburg could maximize our green space in our urban neighborhood? Do you really love trees?
Join us October 14th at 10:40 am for a special chapel service featuring Professor Larry Crockett who will share insights and philosophies related to stewarding green space.

The panel will feature partners helping in planning Augsburg's campus transformation into an Urban Arboretum. Conference Presentation by Becca Freese
Becca Freese, a senior mathematics major, attended the 2015 Math & More Conference on Saturday, October 3 at St. Olaf College. Augsburg mathematics professor Jody Sorensen accompanied her. Becca gave a talk about her summer REU project entitled, "Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) Based Live Load Fragility Analysis for a Steel Bridge using a Structural Health Monitoring System". Wow! Becca's talk was great, and very well received. The conference included keynote speakers talking about the use of mathematics in political science, banking, medical research, and at places like the NSA and Google. Congratulate Becca if you see her!

The Main Street Project wants to introduce you to its chickens! They're
raised locally, with no antibiotics or chemicals, fed with non-GMO feed and
pasture grasses, free-ranged in a natural environment. Healthy and
delicious, and processed this summer.
For the first time in Minneapolis, they are offering frozen, whole and
pieced chickens for sale by pre-order to be picked up at the St. Frances
Cabrini Church parking lot on Sat, Oct. 10, 10am-1pm.
Whole Frozen Chicken (10 or more): $3.19/lb
Whole Frozen Chicken (less than 10): $3.29/lb
Frozen chicken cut into 8 pieces: $3.69/lb

The Main Street Farmers are graduates of the "agripreneur" training program
at Main Street Project in Northfield, MN, raising their first flocks of
free-range poultry on community incubator farms and practicing regenerative
agriculture. Most of the farmers are immigrants who share a goal of
launching their own farm business, providing a better life for their
families and building stronger and healthier communities.
