Teaching and Learning

Apply for Off-Campus Summer Research

Travel. Learn. Connect.

Get paid to conduct research with some of the nation's top academics at universities, labs, or institutes through a summer research program. There are programs designed for students in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and they often include a research stipend and housing. Such programs are a great way to enhance your education, meet new people, and explore a new city!

See URGO's website to find hundreds of off-campus research opportunities: http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/research/off-campus-research/

Application deadlines for these programs are most often near the start of next semester (January, February), so Winter Break is the perfect time to get started! URGO will be hosting a workshop January 17 where students will receive one on one advising and feedback on their applications. Students are encouraged to send their application essays to urgo@augsburg.edu prior to the workshop to make the most of the time.

Off-Campus Research Application Workshop
Saturday, January 17th
10 a.m.-2 p.m. in SVE 201
Lunch will be provided

If you cannot make it to the workshop, please contact URGO at 612-330-1446 or urgo@augsburg.edu to make an individual appointment.

Daily Chapel: Las Posadas

Join us in the chapel today at 10:40 a.m. for Las Posadas! Las Posadas is a tradition celebrated in Mexico that brings families and communities together for nine consecutive evenings (Dec. 16-24) to re-enact the journey of the peregrinos, Mary and Joseph, in search of shelter on their journey to Bethlehem. A procession carrying statues representing the pereginos and Christ Child walks to a designated home in the community to ask for shelter for the night. Through the posada song, En el Nombre del Cielo, peregrinos and inn keepers address the struggles of the journey, a hope-filled request and the hospitality that can come from opening our hearts to others.

Inn keepers welcome the peregrinos into their home to the tune of Entren Santos Peregrinos, followed by traditional food including tamales, buñuelos, ponche de fruta and the long awaited opportunity to break a seven-point piñata (representing the seven capital sins) filled with fruit, peanuts and candy.

Next week:
Tuesday, 12/16, 5 p.m.: Hearty Eucharist, Augsburg Room, Christensen Center

(No chapel services during finals week or winter break. Chapel will resume Monday, Jan 12, 2015)

We gather in Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center - Everyone is welcome!
