Written Assignments Due? Find the Writing Lab

Taking a course this summer? The wonderful writing tutors can help! Regular summer hours in the Writing Lab have now resumed and will continue through Thursday, August 21. Again, summer hours are Mondays and Thursdays, 4:30-7 p.m.

The Lab is located in Lindell Library, street level, just left of the circulation desk. Tutors are on duty to help Augsburg students at any stage of their writing process.

AchieveMpls Graduation Coaches Needed

AchieveMpls is seeking volunteers to serve as Graduation Coaches, providing one-on-one mentoring for high school juniors as they navigate the path to college and careers. Graduation Coaches volunteer for 2-3 hours per month, meeting with their student during the school day at a Minneapolis public high school and following up over e-mail. Training and curriculum are provided and a 9-month academic year commitment is required. If you are interested in participating in the AchieveMpls Graduation Coaches program, please contact Steve Peacock; peacock@augsburg.edu.

Student Financial Services Department Changes

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce two important changes made to the Student Financial Services department. Firstly, Paul Terrio will move from his current role as Senior Director of Student Financial Services and assume a newly-created position of Senior Analyst, Enrollment Management. This position will be responsible for improving the forecasting of enrollment and revenue, provide much needed analysis of the institutional financial aid budget and its impact on matriculation and retention, along with developing a framework and process to help prospective students understand college costs, student debt, and the return on investment of their education.

With the change to Paul's role, Carly Eichhorst will assume the daily management of the Student Financial Services division. She will oversee operations, budgeting, hiring, compliance, and aid allocation. This change not only allows Carly to grow her responsibilities, it will also clarify roles and responsibilities for the department. An important goal for the Financial Services Division is to improve student services for both new and returning students through improved technology and streamlined processes. Carly will spearhead these initiatives in her new role.

MFA Summer Residency - Readings and Screenings

The MFA in Creative Writing 2014 Summer Residency is on campus through Sunday, July 27. Please join us in welcoming our very talented students and acclaimed writers to campus for this festival of craft talks, workshops, evening readings and more. This summer's visitors include Pulitzer prize-winning science journalist Deborah Blum, playwright Kristoffer Diaz, poet/memoirist Alex Lemon, screenwriter Bill Wheeler, and author Pam Houston. They will be joining our own MFA mentors, Nicole Brending, Stephan Eirik Clark, Cass Dalglish, Jack El-Hai, Heid Erdrich, John Gaterud, Sarah Myers, Cary Waterman and Steven Wingate.

We invite you to join us for the evening readings/screenings and receptions, at which featured writers will be available to sign their works. All events begin at 7:30 p.m., and the public is invited. Free.
