Shredding Service Coming - Clean Your Files

It is time to go through your office files and office storerooms and purge confidential documents according to your retention rules. We will bring a document destruction service to campus in a couple of weeks. Place a facilities work request by March 5 to request pick-up of your confidential documents for shredding. If you have questions about what is confidential, please contact your manager. Sorry, we cannot accommodate personal shredding.

Zyzzogeton Registration Deadline March 14

Augsburg's annual student research festival, Zyzzogeton, will be held on April 11 from 2-4 p.m. in the Oren Gateway Atrium.

Students who plan to present their research or creative activity at this poster session will need to register at www.augsburg.edu/urgo/zyzzogeton by March 14. Poster and abstract submission directions are detailed at www.augsburg.edu/urgo/zyzzogeton as well.

If you need help creating your poster, URGO and McNair will be hosting a workshop on Wednesday, March 5 from 4:30-6 p.m. in Sverdrup 205.

Summer Opportunity

Health Force MN is looking to hire a number of college age students to be camp counselors this summer. Scrubs Camps are designed to engage middle and high school students in healthcare careers and topics. Hands on camp activities are designed to allow students to personally engage with health-care professionals and faculty. The camps are open to any middle and high school age students. Scrubs Camps is a collaborative effort between HealthForce Minnesota and key partners like Winona State University, Augsburg College, Saint Paul College, University of Minnesota, Fairview Health Services, Mayo Clinic, Olmsted Medical Center, Winona Health and many others. Fac/Staff: Chair Massages - March 5

Do you wonder if winter will ever end? Is it causing you stress? To help combat the stress, Ambiente Gallerie will be on campus again providing free chair massages for our faculty and staff. We will have light healthy refreshments available, so plan to stop over and enjoy a stress break.

You must register for the massages and there are limited spaces available. To register go to the Human Resources Moodle page, go to the "March 5 - Employee Massage Sign-Up" appointment scheduler located at the top of the page. From there, you will be able to click on one of the available appointment slots listed. Please note: the "teachers" for the times listed are not the massage therapists that will be providing the massages. Massages will be given by fully licensed massage therapists.

These awards recognize student leaders and student groups for their innovative and outstanding leadership during the academic year. All students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members are strongly encouraged to submit nominations; self-nominations are also encouraged. SC 2014-15 Applications Now Available

Scholastic Connections is a scholarship and mentorship program for undergraduate students of color (American Indian, Hispanic/Latino, Pan-Afrikan, and Pan Asian) at Augsburg College. Students who are successful in their application process and are selected to participate, receive a $5000 scholarship and are paired with a successful alum of color that serves as mentor for the Scholar.

Five "new" Scholars will be selected for the program for 2014-15.

Students who are Promise Scholars, full tuition President Scholars or International President Scholars are NOT eligible for SC.

Eligibility Criteria:
Current Augsburg student or advanced-standing transfer student
Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
Demonstrated leadership ability or potential
Demonstrated community involvement on or off campus
GPA of 2.5 or higher

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2014

Please Nominate for Christensen-Justice Award

The Marina Christensen-Justice Award is presented to one graduating senior at commencement each year who best exemplifies Augsburg's motto "Education for Service." The student must have demonstrated a dedication to community involvement as characterized by the personal and professional life of Marina Christensen-Justice, who courageously and effectively reached out to disadvantaged people and communities.

Nomination should include:

Name of graduating senior
Major
Person who is submitting the nomination

Description of the ways that the student has been involved in the off-campus community during his/her time at Augsburg though service-learning experiences, internships, volunteer experiences,the Bonner Program, etc.

Award-winning Physics Alum to Speak On Campus 3/3

McNair and STEM Programs welcome Dr. Alexa Halford '03, Augsburg McNair Scholar, Physics and Mathematics Alumna, Alumni First Decade Award recipient, and current Visiting Young Scientist and Dartmouth College to speak with students and faculty.

Upon graduating from Augsburg, Halford went on to receive a Masters in Astronomy and Planetary Sciences from University of Colorado at Boulder and a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Newcastle. Shortly after completing her Ph.D. work, Halford won a highly competitive "Visiting Young Scientist" fellowship from Dartmouth College. Since then she has served as a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Researcher in Physics at Dartmouth, and is a member of the scientific team for a NASA-funded scientific balloon experiment project called BARREL (Balloon Array for RBSP Relativistic Electron Losses).

Research Poster-Making Session - March 5

If you plan to participate in Zyzzogeton this year or will be presenting at another conference, please join Tina Tavera of McNair and Kirsten O'Brien of URGO for a poster-making info session Wednesday, March 5 at 4:30 in Sverdrup 205. We will discuss content, layout, and design. You will also have the opportunity to work on your poster and receive feedback. Posters are due March 14, so now is the best time to start!

Ben Stroud Reading, Thursday, March 6

ACTC presents writer Ben Stroud, who will read from his work on Thursday, March 6, 7 p.m., at the Augsburg College Barnes & Noble bookstore. Stroud's short story collection "Byzantium" won the 2012 Bread Loaf Writers' Conference Bakeless Fiction Prize and was published by Graywolf in 2013. The book was selected as a Best Summer Book by the Chicago Tribune and Publisher's Weekly, and as a Best Book of the Month by Amazon. Free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Depression and Anxiety Screening Days

The Center for Counseling and Health Promotion is hosting two Depression and Anxiety Screening Days on Monday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 5 from 11:30-1:30 in the Christenson Center Lobby. The following services will be offered:

* Free 10-minute mental health screening
* Meet face to face with a counselor to discuss the results
* Receive information about depression, anxiety, and other common college student concerns
* Learn about on- and off-campus treatment resources
* If you are interested in receiving counseling services through CCHP, you can schedule your first appointment during the tabling event, even if you do not want to do the screen!
* On Wednesday, March 5, Paws for Learning will be at the tabling event! Come and see the therapy dogs!

Note: Dr. Annette Gerten passed away on December 31, 2014. She was an associate professor in the Department of Social Work at Augsburg College. She will be remembered as an inspiring teacher, dedicated researcher, advocate for social justice, collaborative colleague, and loving spouse and mother.
