Zyzzogeton Registration Deadline March 14

Augsburg's annual student research festival, Zyzzogeton, will be held on April 11 from 2-4 p.m. in the Oren Gateway Atrium.

Students who plan to present their research or creative activity at this poster session will need to register at www.augsburg.edu/urgo/zyzzogeton by March 14. Poster and abstract submission directions are detailed at www.augsburg.edu/urgo/zyzzogeton as well.

If you need help creating your poster, URGO and McNair will be hosting a workshop on Wednesday, March 5 from 4:30-6 p.m. in Sverdrup 205.

Faculty: Host Int'l Programs in Your Classes

Staff in the Office of International Programs would like to visit spring semester classes to spread the word to your students about the many study and internship abroad options available to them. We are particularly focused on visits in the next couple weeks before our **March 1** application deadline.

Please review your plans for class over the next few weeks to see if you can spare 5-10 minutes during one class meeting for a message about study abroad. Once you've got a preferred day/time, you can request a visit through this online form:

Lewis, and her own philanthropic journey as founder of All Star Code, which connects African American young men to the technology industry.

College Student Self-Harm Study (Free Treatment)

CCHP has been contacted by a researcher at the University of Minnesota Outpatient Psychiatry Department to spread the word about an opportunity for Augsburg students to participate in a research study that will provide free group treatment for students who self-harm (two hour sessions for 8 weeks). Students will also receive compensation. The study starts the week after spring break, and students need to have a screening interview previous to that time, so referrals are needed ASAP.

The criteria for inclusion in the study are as follows: the student has struggled with self-harm (cutting, burning self, banging head); the student is 18-27 and either currently enrolled or is taking one semester off; age 18-27; not in therapy during the time of the group; available Mondays 3-5pm or Thursdays 2-4pm; no diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Fac/Staff: Chair Massages - March 5

Do you wonder if winter will ever end? Is it causing you stress? To help combat the stress, Ambiente Gallerie will be on campus again providing free chair massages for our faculty and staff. We will have light healthy refreshments available, so plan to stop over and enjoy a stress break.

You must register for the massages and there are limited spaces available. To register go to the Human Resources Moodle page, go to the "March 5 - Employee Massage Sign-Up" appointment scheduler located at the top of the page. From there, you will be able to click on one of the available appointment slots listed. Please note: the "teachers" for the times listed are not the massage therapists that will be providing the massages. Massages will be given by fully licensed massage therapists.

Sabo Scholars: 2014-15 Deadline - Feb. 24

SABO SCHOLARS/SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE for 4-5 students who will be Juniors in 2014-15. Recipients will demonstrate an interest in and commitment to engagement in the political process, public policy issues and careers in public service. Each Sabo Scholar receives a $2,000 scholarship [divided equally between the 2 semesters].

Expectations of Sabo Scholars include collaborating with Representative Martin Sabo, Sabo Professor Emeritus Garry Hesser, and Senior Faculty Fellows to identify and create opportunities for Augsburg students to engage more fully in public policy issues, the political process and exploring career in public service. In addition, the Sabo Scholars help to shape the present endeavors and future direction of the Sabo Center and the Sabo Symposia each semester. The Scholars meet monthly with Representative Sabo, Sabo Professor Hesser, Sr. Fellows & local alums and persons engaged in public service, policy related work and the political process. The deadline for application is February 24.

SC 2014-15 Applications Now Available

Scholarship Opportunity for Undergraduate Students of Color

Applications are now being accepted for Scholastic Connections for 2014-15. Successful applicants for 5 available positions will receive a $5000 scholarship and be paired with an alum of color who will serve as the student's mentor.

Students who are Promise Scholars, full tuition President Scholars or International Scholars are NOT eligible for SC.

Jack El-Hai Reading, Thurs., Feb. 20

MFA mentor and literary journalist Jack El-Hai will read from his work on Thursday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Marshall Room, Christensen Center.

This is a Graduate Information Session and is open to the public.

Augsburg's Barnes and Noble Bookstore will have books available for purchase and Jack will sign books after the reading.

Vocation Lunch for Faculty and Staff - Feb. 26

The Christensen Center for Vocation is pleased to invite Augsburg Faculty and Staff to our winter Vocation Lunch with Carol Enke on Wednesday, February 26 at 12:30 p.m.

Health and Physical Education Instructor Carol Enke will share reflections on her vocation journey in a talk entitled, "I Play to Get Paid." This event includes a complimentary lunch. Any Augsburg staff or faculty may register for the event.

End of the World on Saturday: Viking's Ragnarok

As a medieval historian, I feel it my duty to share this news with the Augsburg community. According to the Jorvik Viking Festival in York, England, the Viking "end of the world" known as Ragnarok, is scheduled for this Saturday, February 22. Ragnarok is the "Norse-version of the apocalypse" during which the Norse gods, including Odin, Thor, and Loki, fight an epic battle that will leave the world destroyed.

Governance Task Force Public Forum Today at 12:30

Please join members of the Governance Task Force today from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Marshall Room to share your views and experiences with decision-making and governance at the College. These meetings are an opportunity for all members of the campus community to be involved in constructing the best decision-making climate we can. Forums will involve conversations that ask participants to draw on recent experiences with decision-making at the College to suggest improvements in shared governance.

Christina Erickson and Colleagues Publish Article

Christina Erickson and colleagues from the University of South Florida, Catholic University of America and the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine's University have published the first of their articles on social work licensing and the impact on practice and education. The study was funded by the New York Community trust. The Journal is Social Work, one of the most widely read in the discipline.
