Ally Trainings Offered in February
Staff and faculty are invited to attend Ally Trainings this February. These workshops give participants an opportunity to learn about LGBTQIA history and culture, discuss terminology, and build skills to work with LGBTQIA communities. Workshops are taking place:

Study Finance in Germany
OMG, it's getting to the end of registration to study finance in Germany this summer. If you are a finance major or just want to study international finance this summer in the beautiful Rhine river valley, come to Germany this summer. We will take Augsburg students to Karlsruhe, Germany and cohort them with German students for two weeks. Then the cohort of German and Augsburg students will come back to Augsburg for another two weeks.
While in Germany, we will visit many world-famous German corporations, see several cultural sights, learn about and visit Berlin. Space and time for the class is limited. Feel free to contact the Study Abroad Office, Prof. Marc McIntosh, or Prof. Stu Stoller if you have any questions. Auf Wiedersehen.

Civil Discourse Employee Training - Feb. 6
We are pleased to announce that the well-received employee training, "Civil Discourse: Strategies for Communicating in a Diverse Workplace" will happen again.
Augsburg is committed to providing development opportunities for our employees that enable each of us to better serve this community. The sessions are open to all faculty and staff at no cost. There are two more opportunities to participate in this course.
Thursday, February 6, 2014
Session 1: 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Session 2: 1:00-4:30 p.m.
The training will cover the following aspects of communication:
- Differing definitions of respect
- Common communication break-downs
- Characteristics of tactful and diplomatic communicators
- A self-assessment of various communication styles
- Tips for adjusting one's own style of communication
- A Communication Action Plan for use during times of difficult or problematic communication

Last Budget Manager's Training Session
The last session will be Wednesday, January 29 between 1-2 p.m. in the Oren Gateway Center suite 100.
This training is designed to help new budget managers navigate the Fiscal 2015 budget cycle and introduce them to the Excel budget templates. However, all budget managers are welcome. Please note if you are already familiar with this process, nothing has changed from last year.
Remember, Deans and Divisional VPs will be reviewing these budgets during the week of February 3. They will then submit to Finance on Monday, February 10.

Looking for a chance to improve your Spanish conversation skills? Then we've got just the thing for you - Spanish Conversation group!
Please join us as we gather to chat in Spanish, laugh, and have a bit of fun. From beginning to advanced, all levels are welcome! We meet every Thursday in the Riverside Room, 2nd floor Christensen, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Signs will be posted. Join us for 10 minutes or for the whole session, whatever works for you. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Career Quick Stop - This Week
Career Quick Stop hours: Tuesdays from 1:00-2:30 p.m. and Wednesday's 10:00-11:30 a.m.
These walk-in hours are meant for quick career question and short resume reviews. Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Simply check-in at Career & Internship Services (Christensen Center, Suite 100).

Last Day to Add and Drop is Today, Tuesday, 01/28
Today, Tuesday, January 28 is the last day to add a class with faculty signature or drop a class for full refund and without a grade of "W" for spring semester.
Registration forms need to be received by the Registrar's Office before the close of the business day. Forms can be dropped at the Enrollment Center window or drop box, emailed to registrar@augsburg.edu or sent by fax to 612-330-1425.

Christensen Scholar Deadline Approaching

Stortz at Mayo Clinic's Spirituality Grand Rounds
Marty Stortz, the Bernhard M. Christensen Chair of Religion and Vocation, will be the featured speaker for the Mayo Clinic Spirituality Grand Rounds on Thursday, January 30, 2014, noon-1pm in the Geffen Auditorium at the May Clinic in Rochester.
The presentation, "Welcoming My Wounds: Healing and the Body's Knowing" is a narrative exploration of how suffering becomes a vehicle for compassion.

The Augsburg Alumni Board invites you to an evening of networking on Wednesday, February 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Connect with fellow Auggie alumni from a variety of professions and help Augsburg students hone their professional networking skills as they prepare to venture out into the working world. Registration is now open for the annual MN Private College Job & Internship Fair on February 19, 2014. This fair is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

In her highly innovative translations of ancient plays, acclaimed poet Anne Carson "combines contemporary language with the traditional structures and rhetoric of Greek tragedy, opening up [ancient tales]…to a modern audience…" In Antigonick, Carson emphasizes the importance of time–and timing–in tragedy, by introducing a silent character, Nick, who is always on stage measuring things while the events of the play unfold. Antigone is "here given an entirely fresh language and presentation." The Augsburg Theater Department production is an area premiere and only the second production ever of this provocative new play.

Keeping Track of Auggies
CCV: Nazis and Christians
Mark Tranvik, Professor of Religion and Director of the Christensen Center for Vocation, finished a three-week series at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley on the topic: "Nazis and Christians: The Story of the German Church Struggle During from 1933-45." Tranvik looked at the historical circumstances that made many Christians in Germany welcome the rise of the Nazis. Also examined were the attempts to forge a faith that combined Nazism and Christianity as well as the resistance to Hitler within the churches.
