Intergroup Dialogue - SWK 240
In a diverse society, multicultural dialogue about issues of similarity, difference, community and conflict help facilitate understanding between social/cultural groups. In this intergroup dialogue class, students will participate in semi-structured face-to-face meetings across social identity groups. Students will discuss relevant reading material, explore group experiences in various social and institutional contexts and examine narratives from historical, psychological, and sociological sources. Students will participate in intergroup dialogue sessions. These sessions will contain exercises that will facilitate dialogue among students about their own experiences and highlight similarities and differences across identity categories. All exercises will be debriefed in class and in weekly journals. Students will learn about pertinent issues facing the various social identity groups on campus and in society. The goal is to create a setting in which students engage in open and constructive dialogue, learning, and explorations concerning issues of intergroup relations, conflict, and community.
Join us or recommend a student for this class. We will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:50 until 3:30 p.m. Open to any major.

HFA Convo & Luncheon with The Rose Ensemble, 11/13
This year's Humanities and Fine Arts Convocation will feature The Rose Ensemble performing "Portraits of Peru, 1785: Exotic Folksongs and Dances from Trujillo."
Flora, fauna, and folk music mingle throughout this program of popular song and dance from late 18th-century Peru, frozen in the amber of an unlikely source, the Trujillo del Peru Codex. This collection of watercolor paintings was compiled by the local bishop for Spanish King Carlos IV, imaginatively depicting the plants, animals, people, and archeological monuments of this diverse region in northern Peru.
Peruvian and Bolivian music with Indian and African influences-party songs, love songs, and rhythmic sacred hymns-is presented by Rose Ensemble singers, a Baroque band, and an impressive collection of South American percussion instruments. The melodies are memorable, the harmonies catchy, the rhythms syncopated
all setting the stage for what would become present-day, Latin-American popular music!
Bonus: This unique performance features projections of the manuscript illustrations and supertitle translations.
The HFA Convo will take place on Wednesday, November 13, at 10 a.m., in Hoversten Chapel. Admission is free. A free luncheon with the musicians will follow, featuring a Peruvian menu. Space for the luncheon is limited. Please contact Phil Adamo if you would like to attend: adamo@augsburg.edu
