Your Ideal Course to Teach or Take?
What kind of creative, collaborative courses are you wanting to bring to the Augsburg community? Courses on pop culture and vocation? The internet economy? Sexual identity? Political activism and democracy colleges? A semester on the Mississippi River? Education in Latin America? As a follow-on to the Commission on Academic Opportunities work of last year, we are reconvening the group that looking at interdisciplinary and team-taught courses and programs. This "free space" is open to any faculty, staff, or student interested in developing new collaborative learning experiences for our students and strengthening the engaged, interdisciplinary program and courses currently offered.
The first meetings are Mon., Dec. 10, and Friday, Dec. 14, from 3:40-5 p.m. in Old Main 202. That room is reserved as a workshop space on Mon. and Fri. 3:40-5:10 p.m. for the Spring term, and many of the meetings will take place during those times. There will also be regular lunch discussion on Wed. and Thurs. in the Commons (by the windows in the NE corner) for anyone who just wants to stop by and explore possibilities. This staff development workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about how financial data is used to inform the decision making process, and how other types of data and processes can be used to track, evaluate, and improve decision making. The workshop will provide some practical strategies for capturing and using information to help your department achieve its goals.
Staney Rostad serves as the comptroller and oversees the accounting and financial reporting at Augsburg.
Nate Hallanger serves as the special assistant to the vice president of academic affairs, where his responsibilities include providing information and data to inform decision making.

Truman Scholarship - $30,000 for Graduate School
Are you interested in a career in public service? Do you plan to attend graduate or professional school? Could you use $30,000 to fund your education?
If so, consider applying for the Truman Scholarship.
Who they're looking for: Students interested in government, non-profit, or public service careers.
Why you should apply: Truman Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.
Who is eligible: The Truman Foundation seeks candidates who have extensive records of public and community service and have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have junior standing (or senior standing, but have one in the 3rd year of college enrollment).

Nabo:
Nabo is offering a meal replacement special, one meal plan meal per week can be used to purchase the special of the day at Nabo from 1:30 p.m. to close.
The special today is a Turkey and Cheddar Melt with chips and a fountain soda.

Health Commons Exhibition + Sock Exchange: Tonight
Join us for a reception tonight, December 6, 4-6 p.m.
Student Art Gallery, Christensen Center
This exhibition, created by the Graphic Design Students at Augsburg College, celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Health Commons by looking at the history, philosophy, and practice of an organization that challenges the definition of health care and truly embraces the idea of creating common ground. In the spirit of the Health Commons, there will be an exchange of new socks for original artwork. The socks will be collected and distributed at the Health Commons.
