Medieval Studies Teaching Method Adopted Elsewhere
Augsburg's nationally recognized program in Medieval Studies is having an impact on how Medieval Studies is being taught at other colleges and universities. Tony Sylvestri, a history lecturer at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, has adopted the methods of Augsburg's "Medieval Connections" course (HUM 120), for his own version of the course, entitled "Medieval Experience". As at Augsburg, professors and students at Washburn wear academic robes, as they did in medieval universities. Students also read from a single codex (book) chained to a desk in the library, and hear lectures from a variety of professors and other experts in medieval material culture.
You can learn about Sylvetri's version of the course at: http://cjonline.com/news/2012-04-15/wu-lecturer-uses-role-playing-teach-history
"Medieval Connections" at Augsburg is taught every spring semester.

Help us Capture the Faces of the Future on Video
A video crew from the Greater MSP Partnership will be on campus Tuesday, April 17, to capture faces of students for Greater MSP's latest video project (see past videos at ( http://www.greatermsp.org ). The Greater MSP Partnership serves as a primary point of contact for domestic and international businesses looking to locate or expand in the 13-county Minneapolis-Saint Paul region. The goal of the video is to feature the diversity of talent that will help our region prosper well into the future.
If you would like to participate in the video, please stop in the main floor of the Christensen Center between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lansing to Join AHA's Nationwide "Tuning Project"
Professor Michael Lansing of the Department of History has been chosen to participate in the American Historical Association's nationwide, faculty-led "Tuning Project".
This project seeks to articulate the disciplinary core of historical study and to define what a student should understand and be able to do at the completion of a history degree program. It will bring together 60 accomplished history faculty from across the country who will work together to develop common language that communicates to a broad audience the significance and value of a history degree. The project does not aim to standardize curricula in history, but seeks to frame common goals -- and reference points for measuring progress toward those goals -- for post-secondary history education. The three-year project is funded by the Lumina Foundation.
Congratulations, Michael!
