Blended Learning Series - TOMORROW

Blended learning has come to mean everything from web-enhanced face-to-face learning to, but not including, courses that are fully online. Integrating online technologies can enhance and enrich learning; online tools also help differentiate instruction. A recent meta-analysis reported by the U.S. Department of Education found that blended learning produced higher performance on learning outcomes than either online or face-to-face learning.

The Blended Learning Series, co-sponsored by IT, is offered from 8:30-10:00 on Third Wednesdays in Lindell 202, and includes the following remaining spring workshop:

March 14 – Online Assessment Techniques and Academic Integrity (Scott Krajewski and Emily Hoisington)

If you plan to attend any of these sessions, please rsvp to Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu)

$1 = $4 = $8= Annual FoodLess FoodDrive

Sabo Center for Citizenship and Learning is now organizing the 4th annual FoodLess FoodDrive, and our goal is to raise enough funds to provide three months worth of food purchased by Brian Coyle Food shelf to Cedar-Riverside residents. Each month they spend over $1,000 on bulk food purchasing for distribution, so Augsburg is setting a $3,000 goal to fill their shelves until the summer.

Using commodity programs and bulk buying power, money in the food shelf's hand is worth four times as much as ours in a grocery store. This makes your $1 equate to $4 of food in the hands of the food shelf. Money also allows the food shelf to purchase exactly what the community needs when it needs it.

The Cedar-Riverside community relies on us, so we ask you to join us in our effort to help them. More information about the FoodLess FoodDrive and how you can make a monetary contribution will be delivered by mail to all Faculty and Staff members this week. For students that wish to donate; look for our events later this month!

Grzesiak-Grimm Named All-West Region

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2012/3/12/mbb031212.aspx?path=mbball

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's basketball post player Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) was named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region Team as a third-team selection, it was announced on Monday.

Grzesiak-Grimm was one of just three Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players named to the 15-player, three-team All-West Region squad by D3hoops.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III basketball. Grzesiak-Grimm is the third Auggie to earn All-West Region honors since the awards were established in 2001-02; Nate Alm was named as a third-team selection in 2008-09, and Lucas Olson-Patterson was a second-team selection in 2004-05.

The award is the latest for Grzesiak-Grimm, who was named All-MIAC earlier this season for his fourth conference honor, after being named All-MIAC honorable-mention in his junior and sophomore seasons and to the All-MIAC First-Year Team in the 2008-09 season.

Grzesiak-Grimm had the best statistical year of his career in 2011-12, nearly averaging a double-double, with 15.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per-game, while also recording 14 blocked shots, 21 steals and 50 assists. In MIAC overall statistics (all games), Grzesiak-Grimm led the MIAC in rebounding, while ranking seventh in scoring. His .554 field-goal percentage ranked fifth among conference players, while his 0.54 blocked shots per-game was tied for 15th-best. In conference games-only, Grzesiak-Grimm ranked first in rebounding (10.1 rpg), seventh in scoring (15.7 ppg), 10th in field-goal percentage (.543) and 14th in free-throw percentage (.768).

Grzesiak-Grimm finished his career prominently in Augsburg's men's basketball record book. He became the 18th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in career scoring, finishing his career 12th with 1,151 points. He finished his career with 723 rebounds, ranking sixth in the category and also becoming one of only four players in school history to record 1,000 career points and 700 career rebounds. His .570 career field-goal percentage is fourth-best in school history, while his 80 blocked shots are fifth-most, his 294 career free throws made are tied for eighth-most and his 412 career free-throw attempts are eighth-most. He is one of 15 players in school history to appear in 100 career games, with his 104 games tied for eighth-most.

Along with teammate Cory Polta (SR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.), Grzesiak-Grimm was part of one of the most dominant low-post combinations in the conference this season, enabling the Auggies to lead the league in rebounding margin (plus-6.5) in overall play, ranking first in offensive rebounds per-game (11.85) and second in defensive rebounds per-game (24.12).

Augsburg finished 16-10 overall, 13-7 in MIAC play, reaching the MIAC postseason playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons. The 16 victories marked the sixth straight year that Augsburg has recorded double-digit wins under seventh-year head coach Aaron Griess, and the fifth straight year that Augsburg has had at least 10 wins in MIAC play.
