General Announcements

Minnesota Idea Open Challenge - Ideas due Mar 23

Working Together Across Cultures and Faiths

Minnesotans are known for their loyalty and tight-knit relationships. Unfortunately, our signature traits also mean we are not as welcoming or open to others as we are to those within our own circles. In a changing state that has become more diverse, we face more situations where conflicts may arise. The Minnesota Idea Open believes that Minnesota is a better place when we work together in ways that push us beyond our usual comfort zones.

Submit your best idea by March 23.

We are asking Minnesotans to help answer the question: What is your best idea to build bonds and work together across cultures and faiths in your community? Facing Race is a proud sponsor of this year's Idea Open Challenge. Three winning ideas may receive $15,000 each for implementation, and two runners-up are eligible for $5,000 each. Learn more and submit your idea at: www.MNIdeaOpen.org

Apply for Community Garden Plots and Internship

It felt like we had months to prepare for the garden season until this week, and now I hear from people who are already planting. In reality, we still have about two months before it's safe to plant things like tomatoes and things, but nonetheless, this is the time to get your garden plot in the Augsburg Community Garden.

If you'd like a plot, we ask for $20 (scholarships available) to cover the cost of water and supplies and a few hours of time to make the whole garden function. The first step applying for a plot (this is also required of former gardeners): www.tinyurl.com/2012gardenapp

Also, If you want a 4 by 4 foot spot in the greenhouse, indicate that in the application, and please email me directly so I can get you a spot as soon as possible. These will be made available early next week.

Lastly, I am looking for a part time intern to manage the garden, particularly in the spring, and on going through the season. It's paid if you are an Augsburg student, but I am happy to work with anyone on this. Email me if interested.

$1 = $4 = $8= Annual FoodLess FoodDrive

Sabo Center for Citizenship and Learning is now organizing the 4th annual FoodLess FoodDrive, and our goal is to raise enough funds to provide three months worth of food purchased by Brian Coyle Food shelf to Cedar-Riverside residents. Each month they spend over $1,000 on bulk food purchasing for distribution, so Augsburg is setting a $3,000 goal to fill their shelves until the summer.

Using commodity programs and bulk buying power, money in the food shelf's hand is worth four times as much as ours in a grocery store. This makes your $1 equate to $4 of food in the hands of the food shelf. Money also allows the food shelf to purchase exactly what the community needs when it needs it.

The Cedar-Riverside community relies on us, so we ask you to join us in our effort to help them. More information about the FoodLess FoodDrive and how you can make a monetary contribution will be delivered by mail to all Faculty and Staff members this week. For students that wish to donate; look for our events later this month!
