Public Safety Break Announcements
Note: The Library and Athletic Facilities have published operating schedules. Those facilities will open and close according to their published schedules.
1 - Buildings will be unlocked each weekday morning at their normal time. Buildings will remain closed on holidays (12/23, 12/24,12/25,12/26, 1/1, 1/2) and weekends UNLESS there is a scheduled activity or office that needs the building open.
2 - Buildings will close no later than 5 p.m. UNLESS there is a scheduled activity or office that needs the building to remain open. Officers will be making regular rounds through buildings. During break the officers will close a building if, during their rounds, they find it empty. If you leave for the day and believe your building will be empty, please call x1717 and let us know.
3 - Conference rooms, classrooms and labs will remain locked UNLESS there is a scheduled activity or office that needs the space.
4 - If the space you need is locked, and you have a legitimate reason to be in there, please call x1717 and an officer will do their best to assist you. Please have photo ID and show it to the officer. Some officers will be working different shifts over the break and may not have had the opportunity to meet you.
5 - Whenever possible, don't work alone. Ideally, there should always be two or more people in your area. If you are working alone, I encourage you to call x1717 and let us know. We will have officers walk by your area more frequently.
6 - If you see anything suspicious, please call x1717 immediately!
7 - Surface Parking lot general spaces will not require a permit between Dec. 16th and Jan 15th. HOWEVER, all specifically marked spaces such as reserved, meters, handicap etc still require the appropriate permit or money. These spaces will continue to be monitored as well as all fire lane and time restricted zones.

Today, Thursday December 15 the bookstore will be open 10am-4pm. Tomorrow, Friday December 16 the bookstore will be open from 10am-3pm.
Next week our hours are Monday-Wednesday 10am-3pm Thursday, 10am-2pm. Closed on December 23.
Day Student Government Resolution-Catering Policy
On Friday, December 9 the Echo printed a resolution passed by Day Student Government regarding the Augsburg College catering policy. There has been some confusion over what this resolution means. Please read below for clarification:
The Day Student Government passed what is called a resolution, which is a non-binding formal statement of opinion. In other words, this resolution is the formal statement of opinion of the Day Student Government in regards to the catering policy at Augsburg College.
Please note that nothing about the current catering policy has changed. It may have appeared in the article as though the catering policy was altered, but in fact, student groups and college departments are still required to utilize A'viands for on-campus events that have 25 or more people.

Tonight at 6:00 students will present "Food For Thought" a series of art and performance based on the research they conducted on the famine this semester. The performance will take place in the basement of Old Main.
All artwork will be available for sale and any contributions will be added to the I AM A STAR campaign.
Enrollment Center Closing Early Today
The Enrollment Center will be closing at 3 p.m. today for the annual Holiday party. We will reopen for normal business hours on Friday, December 16th. Please visit the Enrollment Center website for a listing of our holiday hours.

Timely grade submission is important to our students. Most of our WEC and Grad students are on company reimbursement and work under time lines for submitting their tuition claim (which requires a grade for the course). Many of our Day students are dependent on scholarships which require graded coursework for continuance or for application for new monies. Thank you for your efforts to support our students.

Free Urban Farming Classes Jan-Feb
Want to learn how to grow a ton of food in the city and elsewhere? Permaculture Research Institute will be offering classes on a myriad of way to do just that Jan 3, 10, 17, 24, Feb 7, and 21 (mark your calendars!) from 6-8 pm at Augsburg College. There will be a modest price for the public, and it's free for Augsburg students and staff. Class topics and more details to come in the next week.
Fine Arts Keystone Presentation
Please join graduating seniors from the Film, Music, Studio Arts and Theatre departments as they present the 2011 Keystone collaboration " Food For Thought...Community Connection, Support."
Food For Thought, a series of visual arts and performance pieces is based on research on the famine in Somalia that students conducted fall semester. Working in partnership with the American Refugee Committee (ARC) through a series of presenters, interviews, online articles, and films, students compiled research and created discipline specific work that
reflects their interpretations of the famine.
All work from Food For Thought will be available for purchase and donations will be solicited for "I Am A Star" a recent ARC initiative that provides direct support for the famine in Somalia.

Ally Training I & II are offered to all faculty, staff, and students at Augsburg College to gain knowledge, skills, and resources around being intentionally supportive of LGBTQIA communities. Participants will learn about LGBTQIA history and culture, confront myths and stereotypes, discuss heterosexual and gender-conforming privilege, discuss potential scenarios, ask questions in a safe environment, and discuss next steps on how to be an effective ally to LGBTQIA individuals at Augsburg. Ally Training II continues on what was discussed in Ally Training I and looks at how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, ability, age, and other identities.
You don't need to attend both trainings, but it's recommended that you have attended Ally Training I before signing up for Ally Training II. To RSVP for either one, please email Michael Grewe at grewe@augsburg.edu.

Bri Clark Named All-North Region

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College women's soccer forward Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III All-North Region squad as a third-team recipient, it was announced recently.
Clark also earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors this season. It's the first all-region honor for Clark, and the fifth for an Augsburg women's soccer player since the 2004 season.
Clark had the best year of her career in 2011, scoring a team-best 10 goals with two assists for 22 points, the sixth-most goals and 10th-most points in a single season in school history. She had a goal or assist in 10 of her 17 games played this season, and had four game-winning goals to her credit. Her 10 goals were tied for third-most among MIAC players in overall statistics, her 22 points were fourth-most and her four game-winning goals were tied for second-most.
In her three seasons (42 games) as an Auggie, Clark now has 16 goals and three assists for 35 career points, including eight game-winning goals. Her 16 goals are tied for seventh-most in school history, while her 35 points are tied for 13th-most.
Under 13th-year head coach Mike Navarre, Augsburg finished 2011 season at 9-8-1 overall, 6-4-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg has recorded eight or more victories in women's soccer in eight of the last 10 seasons. Augsburg finished in fifth place in the MIAC standings, the sixth time in the last eight seasons that Augsburg has finished in the top five in the MIAC standings.

Gilmer, Loyd Named All-North Region

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's soccer defenders Chad Gilmer (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Peter Loyd (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III All-North Region Teams, it was announced on Tuesday.
Gilmer was named to the first team, while Loyd was named to the second team. It's the second year in a row that both have earned all-region honors. Gilmer was named to the first team last season, while Loyd was a third-team honoree. Augsburg has had 10 NSCAA all-region honorees and 12 overall (NSCAA, D3Kicks.com) all-region honorees since 2006.
Both Gilmer and Loyd also earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in November. Last year's MIAC Player of the Year, Gilmer earned his third straight all-conference honor, after being named All-MIAC in 2010 and All-MIAC honorable-mention in 2009. Loyd earned all-conference honors for the fourth straight year -- All-MIAC honors in 2011, 2010 and 2009, and All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2008.
Playing in 14 games this season after missing four games due to injury, Gilmer continued to shine as one of the most versatile players on the team, scoring three goals for six points on the season. He started the season as one of the backbones of Augsburg's defense, then contributed throughout the field after returning from a three-game stretch due to injury late in the season.
In his three seasons at Augsburg (53 games, 52 starts), Gilmer now has 12 goals and six assists for 30 career points.
Loyd had the highest-scoring year of his career in 2011, scoring three goals with two assists for eight points. He started every game and appeared in a team-high 1,543 minutes of the team's 1,680 played this season (91.8 percent).
Starting 79 of Augsburg's 80 games in his four years, Loyd was the anchor of a defense that surrendered just 58 goals (0.69 goals-against-average) in his career, with 42 shutouts. Loyd finished his career with nine goals and three assists for 21 points.
Under eighth-year head coach Greg Holker, Augsburg finished 10-5-3 overall, 6-3-1 in MIAC play in 2011, reaching the MIAC postseason playoffs for the fourth time in the last six years. Augsburg has won 69 games (69-33-15, .654 winning percentage) during the past six seasons.
