Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Technology Tapas Workshop TODAY

Tapas are small plates of delicious food eaten as appetizers or combined to form a meal shared with friends. Similarly, our Teaching and Technology Tapas are tasty bite-sized technology tips presented by several IT staff in 3 to 5 minute segments. You can drop by for just a few topics or stay to experience an entire workshop. Please join us for:

About the Workshop
Your LFC team will share a variety of tools and resources that can be applied in your day-to-day activities and in special projects that arise. The presentation will be informal so please feel free to come and go as your schedule allows - we've designed the program with this in mind! Community lunch participants are welcome. Content is appropriate for users with all levels of computing experience.

Zyzzogeton Registration and Information

Please help us in locating students who have done research or creative activity of high quality. Our annual celebration of student scholarship and creative activity, Zyzzogeton (or "Z") sponsored by LSAMP, McNair & URGO*, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14.

Poster Session: April 13, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Oral presentations, literary readings, music performances, art showing, etc. April 13-14, 2011

Students can participate in "Z" via:
-The poster session on Wednesday, April 13 (3:00-5:00). URGO/LSAMP/McNair pay for poster printing costs.
-An alternative format for presenting their work. For example, this could be a musical performance, a literary reading, art showing, or an oral presentation.

What you need to know:

Deadline for Submission (includes an abstract of your research or creative activity): Friday, March 11, 2011

If you need assistance making your poster you can contact your faculty mentor first and then Dixie Shafer at shafer@augsburg.edu. Dixie is happy to sit down with any student any discuss poster elements or proof drafts.

Feed the Pig Class Gift Competition is Heating Up

The Feed the Pig Class gift competition is heating up!

2014 $136.65 raised by 39 supporters <----LEADING PARTICIPATION!
2013 $121.43 raised by 26 supporters
2012 $67.70 raised by 15 supporters
2011 $171.42 raised by 33 supporters <----LEADING DOLLARS RAISED!

All students faculty and staff have until Friday, March 4th at 2 p.m. to support their class so they win the party at Augsburg House, the residence of President Pribbenow! Deposit your piggy banks from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Christensen Center, the first 100 receive a free "I Fed the Pig" t-shirt!

All the money raised will support current Augsburg students through scholarships! We've raised a total of $585.02 so far!

Reserve Your Tickets for Belle Reprieve

Tickets are on sale now for Augsburg Theatre department's production of Belle Reprieve written by Bette Bourne, Paul Shaw, Peggy Shaw, and Lois Weaver, directed by David Deblieck.
The show, created in collaboration by the members of two queer performance companies, Belle Reprieve is a cross-dressing, farcical romp that re-visions Tennessee Williams' characters from A Streetcar Named Desire: Mitch (a fairy disguised as a man), Stella (A woman disguised as a woman), Stanley (a butch lesbian) and Blanche (a man in a dress). Using the famous film version of the play as a launch pad and cabaret music as a theatrical mouthpiece, the play examines sexual politics and gender performance in American life and theatre!
Available performance dates are:
March 8, 9, 10, and 11 at 7:00pm
Ticket prices:
$6 General Public, $4 ACTC Faculty, Staff and Students, $2 Augsburg Students and children under 12.

Saturday, March 5, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Submissions:
-All artwork must have been created since April 2010.
-Number of entries is limited to 3 per person.
-All work must be prepared for installation.
-2D, 3D, digital, and film entries are accepted. Film entries must be submitted in Flash or
QuickTime on a disc and be less than 10 minutes in length.

Community Action Panel: Closing the Gap TONIGHT

Thursday March 3rd from 4:45 to 6:30 in the East Commons: Community Leaders SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT about the achievement gap and how it affects Minneapolis students and their vision for change. Thinking of Quitting Tobacco - "Filter This"

Now is the time! You have help and support! Do you want to quit? Are you thinking about quitting? Have you thought about it for some time and did not know where and when to get help and support? "Filter This" is a group of people that are dedicated to quitting tobacco use. Some quit "cold turkey" and some quit with the help of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), and some have chosen other paths. No matter what the strategy, aid or philosophy, everyone needs help and support. Join us and listen or ask questions, speak of your experience with quitting, your struggles and your victories. This is not easy, this is hard, your not alone and quitting can be a proposition full of fear and anxiety. It does not have to be.

The meeting is Every Thursday from 4-5pm in OGC 113. This Thursday we will also be offering pizza for those who attend. Come and get it!!

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 12th annual Augsburg Leadership Awards taking place on Monday, April 11. Any student, staff, faculty, or community member may nominate a fellow student leader, student group, or student group advisor for these awards; self-nominations are also accepted. Nomination packets are due no later than 4:30pm on Friday, March 25. To obtain a nomination packet, ask questions about the process, or submit a nomination, you can email Michael Grewe at grewe@augsburg.edu or stop by the Auggie's Nest to talk in-person with a Campus Activities and Orientation staff member.
