Chapel this Week
Dear Augsburg community,
In my Opening-of-the-Year President's Update, I mentioned the central role that daily chapel plays in the life of our college community. We gather every week day (and on Weekend College Saturdays) for Sabbath time, both to mark our deep connections to the church and to remind ourselves of the ways in which faith and learning are linked in all that we do here.
Daily chapel begins tomorrow morning (the first day of the semester) with a special service to mark the beginning of the year. Normally, the service would be held in Hoversten Chapel. Due, however, to the use of the chapel by the Washington Center RNC Seminar Program, we will meet out of doors, on the lawn directly outside the 22nd Avenue doors of the Foss Center, for our 10:20 a.m. service. If it rains, we'll be in Sateren Hall in the Music Building.
Pastor Sonja Hagander will preach for our Thursday chapel service, which also will be on the Foss lawn (or in Sateren if weather doesn't cooperate) at 11:20 a.m.
I will preach on Friday, when we will move back into Hoversten Chapel for our 10:20 a.m. service.
I apologize for the inconvenience of different locations for this week's chapel service and look forward to our being together as a community in worship this week and throughout the coming year.
FREE Professional Counseling on Campus
Did you know as an Augsburg student you can get FREE confidential, professional counseling right here on campus? That's right. As a current student you can get up to 10 FREE sessions each academic year. The Center for Counseling & Health Promotion has five professional counselors available: Nancy, Beth, Jon, Sandra and Cacy. If you need someone to talk to who is objective and can help develop new ways to deal with problems you are facing, then the CCHP office is the place to find.
Appointments at CCHP are all confidential. What you talk about at CCHP, stays at CCHP. So give Dianne a call at 612-330-1707 to set up an appointment or stop by our house at 628-21st Avenue (corner of 21st & 7th near Anderson/Luther parking lot).
Not ready to talk to someone than check out our great website full of online self-help links and community resources at www.augsburg.edu/cchp. We will also be tabling in Christensen Center on Friday, September 5 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. if you want to stop by to find out more about us (and get some snacks and a stress ball!)

Stop down in HR today to buy your discounted tickets -- we will be offering them until the end of the Festival. Call us at x1058 with any questions.
Charter Schools -- What do they Mean for Augsburg?
Have you heard of Charter Schools but are not sure what they are? Did you know that Augsburg College sponsors several charter schools? What does that mean? How could Augsburg students become more involved with helping with the success of the students in these school? Come on by to find out the answer to all of these questions on September 17 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the East commons of Christensen Center. This is a bring your own lunch event. Representatives and students from the schools we sponsor will be there as well to answer any specific questions you might have about any particular school. There is a great deal of misinformation regarding charter schools so this is an opportunity to get it straight. Cheers!
