SPRING BREAK WASHINGTON DC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/VOCATION IMMERSION, MARCH 18-25
The week's immersion in DC will focus upon community development in multiracial neighborhoods and communities [Shaw and Anacostia], systemic approaches to homelessness [N Street and Luther Place], and exposure to public service through federal civil service careers and working for elected officials. Participants will engage in conversations and worship participation at Luther Place and National City Christian Church, including explicit attention to ways that members see their church communities challenging and supporting them in their community development and/or civil service/elected official capacities. A key component also involves each student having a shadowing experience with a person who works for the federal government and models a life of commitment and sense of vocation. Participants will room together in the Luther Place hostel. Total Cost to participants: $150, thanks to a grant from the Lilly covering airfare, meals, and lodging.
