General Announcements

Important Changes Coming to Daily A-mail

The Office of Marketing and Communication, which is responsible for distributing the Daily A-mail, has developed an improved process for submitting and reading posts.

New features include:
* a simplified submission interface
* an email receipt confirming each successful submission, including the full content submitted
* the ability to edit a post after it has been submitted up until the submission deadline
* the optional daily digest sent via email will now include links to each individual post.

One important change to note with the new submission process is that the deadline for submitting A-mail will change. The new deadline for inclusion in a day's A-mail will be 11:59 p.m. the day prior to publication, rather than 10 a.m. on the day of publication. This means an A-mail can be submitted at any time during the day (including before 10 a.m.) in order to show up in the next business day's A-mail.

These A-mail updates will be rolled out over the winter break in partnership with IT. As part of this transition, A-mail will not be sent on December 27-29. In addition, as always, Daily A-mail will not be sent on the dates that are College holidays, which include December 23, 26, and 30, as well as January 2.

After the transition, a new "Submit to A-mail" option will be added the left-hand navigation at inside.augsburg.edu. We expect this to be available Dec. 29. The first A-mail sent using the new submission form will be Tuesday, January 3. Submissions for the January 3 A-mail can be submitted any time after the form is available and before 11:59 p.m. January 2, 2017.

Please send questions or concerns to a-mail-corrections@augsburg.edu.

2016 Year End Pay Stub Review

Year End Pay Stub Review - For all 2016 faculty, staff and student workers.

In preparation for year-end 2016, we ask each employee to review the items below and contact us with any changes or updates to your personal information that we have on file.

1) Verify the Name and Social Security Number on your pay stub.

In order for the Social Security Administration to properly post your earnings, the name on your pay stub must match the name on your social security card. If your name has changed legally (marriage, divorce, etc.) and it does not match your pay stub, please submit a copy of a social security card displaying the correct name to Human Resources to update your employment record.

To help protect your identity, your social security number (SSN) is not normally printed on your pay stub. We are including it on the 12/23/16 pay stub so the SSN may be verified. Please take a look at your pay stub and verify that the correct SSN is listed. If the Social Security Number on your pay stub is incorrect, please notify HR/Payroll immediately.

2) Verify the address on your pay stub

W-2 forms will be available online by January 31, 2017, however we do request that you review the address listed on your pay stub to ensure we have your correct address on file. If address corrections are needed, an Address and Name Change Form can be found on the HR Moodle. Complete the form and return it to the Human Resources office in Memorial Hall, Rm 19. If you need any further assistance regarding your change of address please call the HR office at ext. 1058.

3) Check your tax withholdings

The tax withholdings you are currently claiming are printed on the bottom left section of your pay stub. If you wish to change your tax withholdings, please complete a new federal W-4 form; which are available from the Payroll department or may be printed from the Payroll page in the A to Z Directory.

Letter from Higher Ed Leaders on Climate Change

Continuing Augsburg's leadership on climate change action as a signatory to the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), President Pribbenow is one of almost 200 presidents to have signed a letter to the incoming Trump administration. Text of the letter is below and more information is at http://secondnature.org/higher-education-climate-action-letter/.
___

"Dear President-elect Trump and Members of the United States Congress,

We, the undersigned leaders of higher education institutions throughout the United States, recognize our academic and ethical responsibilities to current and future generations to take aggressive climate action; to reduce our sector’s carbon pollution, to support interdisciplinary climate education, and to continue research that expands our understanding of rapidly changing earth systems. We are committed to developing and deploying innovative climate solutions that provide a prosperous future for all Americans.

We join our colleagues in the business and investment communities in supporting the science-based targets outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement. In fact, many of our institutions have voluntarily set even more aggressive carbon reduction goals to lead our sector forward and to demonstrate what is possible for others.

Therefore, we ask that you support the following:

1. Participation in the Paris Agreement, with the resulting national carbon reduction and clean energy targets, to protect the health of our current communities and our future generations.

2. Research in our academic institutions and in federal agencies to ensure that our national climate, energy, and security policies are based on leading scientific and technical knowledge.

3. Investments in the low carbon economy as part of a resilient infrastructure to ensure the country can adapt to changing climate hazards. These investments will also help grow American jobs and businesses.

The upcoming transition of federal leadership presents a unique opportunity to address head-on the challenges of climate change by accelerating the new energy economy and creating strong, resilient communities. This is particularly important for those in our communities most vulnerable to climate change. Your support for these three areas is a critical investment in the future of the millions of students we serve. We will continue to prepare graduates for the workforce as well as lead in world-class research and innovation in order to secure a healthier and more prosperous future for all.

We stand ready to assist your incoming Administration and congressional representatives to embrace this opportunity for the nation to meet these unprecedented global challenges."

Call for Nominations - Multicultural Showcase

Greetings!

This is the official call and nomination for performers for the 2017 Multicultural Showcase taking place on Thursday, January 26th, from 7-9pm at Sateren Auditorium at Augsburg College.

We are looking for student performers from the student body and from the community. These can be performers from student organizations or students involved with outside organizations. Student performances will last a total of 6 minutes in length.

We are also looking for professional performance groups from the community who are willing to share their talent with our students and community. Professional groups will have up to 15 minutes to perform. We are limiting this particular category to 2 or 3 at the most, to allow for more student performances and involvement.

Finally, I am looking for 2 emcees for the show. They will be keeping the energy going for the audience, introducing the acts, etc.

If you would like to nominate a group or a person to be a part of this wonderful event, AND/OR you are interested in or know of talent that would add value to this wonderful event, please send names and contact information to Anthony Wilder at wildera@augsburg.edu.

Feel free to forward this email to individuals who you may think would be interested.

Thank you!
