Student Success Session Tomorrow, 4 p.m.

The next installment in the New Faculty Series is this Wednesday (tomorrow!). Katie Bishop, Chief Student Success Officer, will address the many factors that contribute to students' success in college, as well as Augsburg's commitment to becoming a student-ready campus. Though this series is offered for our newest faculty colleagues, all faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Intl. & USA Off-campus Course Proposals: Due Dec.

Any course with an overnight off-campus (domestic or international) component, must be approved through Academic Affairs (AAC/GAAC, CGEE) prior to offering the course.

DEADLINE for 2017-2018 (Fall 2017, Winter 2018, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018) is December 1, 2016. Faculty may also submit proposals for 2018-2019.

NSF AugSTEM Scholarship Applications Now Open

AUGSTEM SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Applications are now open for the 2016-17 AugSTEM Program!

The AugSTEM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF DUE-1565060), AugSTEM Scholars receive scholarships of $5,000, $7,500 and $10,000 per student per year. (Differences in award amounts correspond to levels of financial need.) Scholars also become a part of the STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for summer research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

Eligibility:
* Enrolled full-time in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, chemistry, computer science, environmental studies, mathematics, or physics)
* Within 5 semesters of graduating
* Major GPA of 3.0 or higher
* U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
* Demonstrate financial need via FAFSA

APPLICATIONS DUE: OCTOBER 27, 2016

Incoming community college transfer students and Augsburg students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply as well as students who began at Augsburg.

Fall Blood Drive - Wednesday - Donors Needed

Memorial Blood Center will be on campus on Wednesday 10/5/16 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm in the East Commons for the annual fall blood drive. If you have not signed up for a donation time yet there are still some openings. Worried? Stressed? Sad? You're not alone. Get help at the Center for Wellness and Counseling's Depression and Anxiety Screening Day. Stop by the Center for Wellness & Counseling in Anderson Residence Hall on Wednesday, October 5th, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Complete a free 10-15 minute screening for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. No appointments necessary. You will meet face-to-face with a counselor to discuss the results and receive information about resources on- and off-campus to help address your concerns. Muslim Identities in Minnesota

Are you interested in learning about Muslim Identities in Minnesota?

Date and Time: Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center, Augsburg College

In the 21st century there is a plethora of cliches, stereotypes, and over-generalizations about Muslims in Minnesota, where there are also a variety of different ways of being Muslim.

Join Professor Cawo Abdi and Ph.D. candidate Nahid Khan to explore the diversity of Muslims in Minnesota today and the many contexts shaping their lives and identities. Professor Abdi will draw on her recently published book on the Somali diaspora, Elusive Jannah, and Khan will present data from her research on the portrayal of Islam and Muslims in Twin Cities media over the last several decades.

The event is FREE and OPEN to the public!

Chapel: Blessing of the Animals - Fri., Oct. 7

Join us at 10:40 a.m. this Friday, 10/7, as we celebrate St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals. Our service will include a lively blessing ritual of animals and pets to honor St. Francis' devotion to all God's creatures. Bring your pet (or picture of your pet) to chapel for this special worship service in Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center. Special guest: Jennifer Troy, Executive Director of Paws for Learning, will join us with therapy dogs!

Fac/Staff Training: Minimizing Unconscious Bias

Faculty and Staff Training: Minimizing Unconscious Bias in Hiring

The Provost's Office, Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Committee, and Human Resources are partnering to offer a training session for faculty and staff on Minimizing Unconscious Bias in Hiring which will be held on Tuesday, October 11 in OGC 100, from 9:00 a.m. - noon.

The training will include a video and discussion facilitated by Jeffrey Cookson of Language and Culture Worldwide. We will be discussing unconscious bias and it's impact on the hiring and selection process and strategies we can use to de-bias situations.
