Intl. & USA Off-campus Course Proposals: Due Dec.

Any course with an overnight off-campus (domestic or international) component, must be approved through Academic Affairs (AAC/GAAC, CGEE) prior to offering the course.

DEADLINE for 2017-2018 (Fall 2017, Winter 2018, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018) is December 1, 2016. Faculty may also submit proposals for 2018-2019.

It's Time to Visit the Writing Lab

You probably have papers, applications, or personal statements due soon. Tutors in the Writing Lab can help! The lab is located in Lindell Library, street level just left of the circulation desk. Tutors will help any Augsburg student with any writing task. Just bring your work in progress (hard copy).

These are the hours for fall term:

Mondays - 11:10 - 1:40; 6:30 - 9:30
Tuesdays - 12:30 - 3; 3:30 - 6; 7:30 - 10
Wednesdays - 3:30 - 6; 6:30 - 9
Thursdays - 12:30 - 3; 3:30 - 6; 7:30 - 10
Fridays - 4 - 6:30 (NOTE - Because the Library has changed its hours, the Lab has adjusted Friday hours from our previous posted Friday schedule.)

Apply to be a Civic Studies Fellow

The Civic Studies Fellows will be a group of 6 Augsburg faculty and staff and 3 community members who commit to engaging in civic studies and action for the duration of the academic year. The Civic Studies Fellows will work strategically so they can co-create with others to positively impact the Augsburg community, our partnerships, and the larger landscape of civic engagement in higher education. They will strategize about Augsburg's potential to be "Big to the World" by taking leadership in the field.

Being a Civic Studies Fellow involves commitment to the following:

- To become familiar with core texts of Civic Studies and engage in monthly discussions with the other fellows about the readings and their strategic implications.
- To be part of an action team of fellows that are working on an issue at Augsburg.

Fellows will receive a professional development stipend of $700 for Augsburg Civic Studies Fellows and $1000 for community fellows.

Fac/Staff Training: Minimizing Unconscious Bias

Faculty and Staff Training: Minimizing Unconscious Bias in Hiring

The Provost's Office, Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Committee, and Human Resources are partnering to offer a training session for faculty and staff on Minimizing Unconscious Bias in Hiring which will be held on Tuesday, October 11 in OGC 100, from 9:00 a.m. - noon.

The training will include a video and discussion facilitated by Jeffrey Cookson of Language and Culture Worldwide. We will be discussing unconscious bias and it's impact on the hiring and selection process and strategies we can use to de-bias situations.

Drivers and Cyclists Social: October 6, 8-9 A.M.

Staff and faculty are invited to the Drivers and Cyclists Social, Thursday, Oct. 6, 8-9 a.m., East Commons, Christensen Center

Staff and faculty are invited to this event so that
--drivers can meet and mingle with others from their zip code or along their travel route (and maybe form a carpool or find an opportunity for an occasional ride-share);
--cyclists can meet and mingle with others who ride their bike to Augsburg to share tips, trails and travails; this will also be an opportunity for cyclists to register for the ZAP Twin Cities program
--all enjoy some coffee, or tea, and snacks and conversation

Depression and Anxiety Screening Day

Worried? Stressed? Sad? You're not alone. Get help at the Center for Wellness and Counseling's Depression and Anxiety Screening Day. Stop by the CWC table in Christensen Center on Monday, October 3, between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; or stop by the Center for Wellness & Counseling in Anderson Residence Hall on Wednesday, October 5, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Complete a free 10-15 minute screening for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. No appointments necessary. You will meet face-to-face with a counselor to discuss the results and receive information about resources on- and off-campus to help address your concerns. Muslim Identities in Minnesota

Are you interested in learning about Muslim Identities in Minnesota?

Date and Time: Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center, Augsburg College

In the 21st century there is a plethora of clichés, stereotypes, and over-generalizations about Muslims in Minnesota, where there are also a variety of different ways of being Muslim.

Join Professor Cawo Abdi and Ph.D. candidate Nahid Khan to explore the diversity of Muslims in Minnesota today and the many contexts shaping their lives and identities. Professor Abdi will draw on her recently published book on the Somali diaspora, Elusive Jannah, and Khan will present data from her research on the portrayal of Islam and Muslims in Twin Cities media over the last several decades.

The event is FREE and OPEN to the public!
