Faculty/Staff Seminar Trip to Germany - Apply Now

In celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, Augsburg College faculty and staff are invited to apply for a seminar trip to Germany from May 8-19, 2017. The trip will be led by Dr. Russell Kleckley and Dr. Mark Tranvik of the Religion Department. We will visit Berlin, Wittenberg, Leipzig, and end our trip in Prague. The focus will be on how vocation has been understood in the Lutheran tradition and how it still informs the life and work of the college today. All are welcome...you don't have to be Lutheran to come!

Seminar participants will be asked to pay $500. For faculty, an additional $500 can be available from CTL funds. This will cover travel, room and most meals. Staff should speak with their supervisors about equivalent financial support from the College. This will cover travel, room and most meals.

Those interested should submit a brief statement describing their interest in the seminar and the anticipated benefits for both the individual and the College. About two paragraphs should be fine. This should be sent to Mark Tranvik (tranvik@augsburg.edu) or Russell Kleckley (kleckley@augsburg.edu) by no later than May 2. Profs. Tranvik and Kleckley will also take your questions or concerns.

May 4 Workshop For Those Teaching Graduate Courses

The Grad Council has been discussing ways to engage the campus more generally in conversations around graduate teaching and program support. The current campus conversations around the university question have contributed to our discussion. In December, there was a joint meeting of the Grad Council and the GAAC to talk about common issues. At that meeting both groups expressed support for more activities that would bring all faculty members who teach graduate courses together for further work that advances our programs.

Toward that end, on May 4 there will be a graduate faculty workshop in the Marshall Room. The day will start about 9am and will go through lunch -- finishing about 1 p.m. There will be another email to follow that has more details regarding the topics and agenda, but for now, we are asking faculty from all graduate programs to mark their calendars and plan to join us that day.

Please contact Jolee Lilja, the MAL Program Coordinator if you can attend (liljaj@augsburg.edu). If you have questions, please contact your graduate program director.

Vocation of a Lutheran College Conference

This summer Augsburg will host the twenty-second annual Vocation of a Lutheran College Conference. Each year this conference brings together members of Lutheran (ELCA) colleges and universities to explore the distinctive roles we play in higher education.

The conference will take place from Wednesday, June 8 - Friday, June 10. The conference will begin with an opening session at 4 pm followed by a dinner at 6:45 pm on June 8 and conclude by 1:00 pm on June 10. The theme this year is "Preparing Global Leaders for a Religiously Diverse World."

A schedule and session topics for the conference can be found at: http://www.augsburg.edu/ccv/events/vocation-of-a-lutheran-college-conference/

As you may know, the ELCA sponsors teams of up to five faculty and staff from each of the ELCA Colleges to attend this annual gathering. Each year this conference brings together our Lutheran college colleagues to explore the distinctive roles we play in higher education. This year, in addition to faculty and staff, we are also inviting students to participate in the conference. As was true for the past seven years, one of the benefits being the host site is that we have the option of inviting more than five people to attend.

This year we will examine interfaith leadership, and students are invited to attend. Students from different colleges will be helping to lead certain parts of the conference as well.

If you will be close to campus this summer, I encourage you to register for this great educational opportunity.

Conference details:
Theme: "Preparing Global Leaders for a Religiously Diverse Society"
Begins at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, June 8
Ends at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 10

The agenda for the conference as well as access to online registration is provided in the links below.

Agenda for the Conference:

Registration:

Please contact Lonna Field at VOALC@augsburg.edu or 1403 if you have questions regarding registration for the conference.
