Teaching and Learning

Grad School Session TODAY at 2 p.m. in OGC

Attend a grad school application session and get tips on finding programs and funding, writing personal statements and CVs, arranging letters of recommendation, and more.

Today's session (9/30) will take place at 2 p.m. in Oren Gateway 103. If you cannot attend a session but are still interested in learning more about applying to graduate school, contact the URGO office at urgo@augsburg.edu to set up an individual meeting.

Call for Proposals: Honors Elective Courses

You've heard it all before:

"The Honors Program is elitist."
"Only a chosen few ever get to teach in Honors."
"I'd like to teach in Honors, but I don't know how to apply."

Now is your chance to help us change that perception! The Honors Programs needs electives to meet the needs of our students. We're looking for interesting courses that might be offered multiple times, on a regular basis -- no need to worry about one-off course design. A fully developed syllabus is not needed at this point. We just need some really good ideas.

Please submit your concept proposals, for possible offering in the fall 2016 or spring 2017, by October 30th, to:

Hear from Auggie Alums: Fine Arts & Humanities Panel

Ever wondered how to keep your passion for theater or the arts alive and pay the bills? Curious how you can put your history major into action in your career? Do you wonder if freelancing can help you jumpstart your career? Do you want to know which skills will help you the most as a communications director someday?

Then this panel discussion is for you! Join five Auggie Alumni as we hear about their time at Augsburg, how they explored major and career options, and where they are today. Walk away with tips and insights to help you move forward in finding your path! This panel is appropriate for students in all years of school and is open to all.

Nabo is open from 7:30am-8:00pm.

Einsteins is open from 7:30am-9:00pm, with the Late Night Menu starting at 7:00pm.

The Commons is open from 7:30am-7:00pm. Market Place is serving Fresh Green Beans with Sea Salt, Vegetable Quinoa, Cajuin Turkey Breast, and Roasted Baby Reds. Vege is serving Southeast Asian Zucchini Coconut Curry, Quinoa with Lemon & Peas, Marinated Grilled Tofu, and Roasted Cremini Mushrooms with Thyme & Caramelized Onions.

What's Up West Bank?

West Bank Crash Course is an un-conference (of sorts) highlighting all things West Bank.

Join us for an introductory crash course into Minneapolis' coolest neighborhood! We'll have workshops and events throughout the week (Monday-Saturday) including a fashion show, craft beer tasting, sambusa-making session, neighborhood tours and more. It's a great way to get to know everything the neighborhood has to offer, and there's something for everyone!

Event Announcements

Seminary and Divinity School Day at Gustavus

Are you considering working for the church or a faith-based non-profit organization? Would you like to learn more about various areas of potential service and explore options for theological graduate study?

If so, gather with your peers from other regional colleges at Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday, October 19.

This all-day event will give you the opportunity to meet with representatives from up to 20 top-notch seminaries and divinity schools from around the nation - from multiple denominational affiliations. The day will also feature a luncheon with a keynote address, breakout sessions and discussions about the discernment process, questions of faith, what it's like to be a professor or in ministry (ordained, not ordained, specialized), the difference between a seminary and divinity school, and more.

Transportation to and from Gustavus will be provided. There is no charge for this event (which includes lunch) but you must pre-register by October 12.

All are invited to a forum on careers and internships for History and Humanities Majors:

The forum will feature: Kristin Kaspar '08, who recently left a corporate job as a software tester to become Executive Director of the Hopkins History Center; Kevin Ehrman-Solberg '15, who interned with the Historyapolis Project while at Augsburg and is now pursuing a masters degree in GIS studies at the U of M; and Jakkee Phillips '14, who will talk about her experiences as an intern at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in 2014.

After short presentations, there will be time for questions and networking. Hosted by the History Department.

Campus Cupboard Food Drive

Hungry students have a hard time concentrating and doing well in the classroom. Do not let this happen to an Auggie. Donate nonperishable food items to the Campus Cupboard, Augsburg’s food shelf for students in need.

When: Wednesday, September 30, 11am - 12:30pm.

Where: Christensen Lobby

What to donate: Food items include, but are not limited to, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats (fish, chicken, salmon), canned or dried beans, canned soup, peanut butter, rice, pasta, oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, and crackers. Toiletry items are also needed.

Bring Your Pet for Blessing of the Animals - Oct. 2

Join us in Hoversten Chapel at 10:40 a.m. this Friday, 10/2, as we celebrate St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals. Our service will include a lively blessing ritual of animals and pets to honor St. Francis' devotion to all God's creatures. We welcome the New Life Choir from Tanzania to the chapel this Thursday, 10/1, 11:30 a.m. 8 voices, 5 drums, and a whole lot of fun! Join us for this inspiring performance as they tour the US raising funds for a school in Tanzania. Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center - absolutely everyone is welcome!
